"When I tried to classify the human species, I realized that they're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but humans do Not. They move to an area and multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed, and the only way they can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. A plague." Agent Smith to Morpheus in The Matrix.

Agent Smith's words are painful because they're TRUE! But they DON'T HAVE TO BE. A Peaceful, Harmonious and Non-violent world begins with Peaceful, Harmonious and Non-violent decisions by each and every one of us. The Church of The Latter Day Dude, is here to remind us all that it's Not too late! Because when we Abide, we are Peaceful, we are Harmonious and we are Non-violent, not only within ourselves but with the world as well. So let us all Abide. And in doing so we will Heal the world.
If you live your life by the opinions of other people, then you will be nothing but their Slave. ~ Lao Tzu

Is that some kind of Eastern thing?

Actually I am down with what you are saying.
I really believe that the highest form of society we were meant to attain is tribalism.
Everything beyond that has been destructive.
If we lived quite a bit smaller then we would naturally be in touch with nature.
Question is if we can realize the error of our ways and put aside selfishness to change course. I doubt it. All signs are opposite.

Fucking inneresting.
I'm going to study permaculture come September, its an applied science which focuses on a kind of syndicalism based around renewable energy and low maintenance eco-systems. I think there's hope that we can all abide in peace! Its just a matter of the dominant narrative changing from exponential growth capitalism to something more realistic!

Caesar dude

Hi SirNels and welcome.

Actually although the quote is maybe accurate to humans it applies to other species too

Survival of the fittest remember. Humans are good at that. Top of the food chain...even the scum and the murderers and the rapist are more sentient than the the most powerful of beasts  on the planet. Therefore they win!

There aren't enough dudes on earth yet to make your Utopia......but keep dreaming...and hoping .... believe and they will come!

Peace.
Love is like a butterfly it goes where it pleases and it pleases where it goes. :)

The root of the problem with humans isn't that we're too violent, or too destructive. The flaw with humans is greed. We always want more, no matter the cost, which causes violence and destruction. Humans need to learn to enjoy what we have, not what we want. That's why I love Dudeism, we take pleasure from the simple things, and go with the flow. If we get rid of greed, the world will be a peaceful place. Do you know what I'm saying Dudes?

BikerDude

We have contrived ways to defy the environment.
Typically any species has a "Carrying capacity" in any environment.
That is to say the area can only support a certain number of individuals.
In instances where creatures can become too numerous nature also uses diseases to maintain a "healthy" population.
Today we can simply decide to have a city of millions in the middle of an area that can naturally support nowhere near that many. We do it by damning rivers, building highways, railroads, bioengineering plants and animals.
The problem is hubris.
It's a matter of time till it comes back around in a big way.

Loving this place - new dude here.

Permaculture is the way forward - close to nature - sharing abundance - and once set up, pretty much not to labour-intensive.

Ticks all my boxes.

Didn't realise it but have been practising dudeism these last 8 years in Spain.

Peace
