Starting right now, this moment, I am asking you to become The Dude. I am asking you to take your stand, to stand absolutely firm in your intention to awaken to the Truth of your Self. You are The Dude.

This is what The Dude did. He didn?t say, ?I?ll think about it.? He didn?t say, ?I might find the Truth.? He didn?t say, ?I?ll give it a shot.? He didn?t say, ?If not in this lifetime, then maybe next one or two.? He came to the point where he didn?t look for anyone else to tell him the Truth or to hand it to him. He came to the point where he took it all on himself to be realized. To achieve Dudeness.

The power of this very simple, yet unshakable intention and absolute stand to be liberated in this lifetime propelled him to awaken to the simple fact that he and all beings are Dudes ? that all beings are Freedom itself. He achieved the Pure Awakening of His Dudeness.

The Dude is ultimately no different from you. That is why he serves as a Great role model, because he was as you are now. So don?t worship The Dude as some sort of God. Become him. Have the same intentions, take the same stand. Be The Dude. Relax and Abide.

You are The Dude! You are freedom itself! You are You and You are The Dude. This body and mind of Dudeness already exists within who and what you are. You just have to wake up. You are Dudeness, already Free, Awake, and Liberated. Stand up and walk out of your dream.

Just stop dreaming. Stop all doing. Just Abide and be Still. Effortlessly be Still. The Peaceful Abiding Calm will do the rest.

At each and every moment from here on out, have the intention to directly experience the Truth of your True Dudeness. Don?t think about the Truth ? just return directly to your experience here, now, moment to moment. Experience the Truth and Abide. Experience your Self as The Dude. Abide in your experience of hearing, of seeing, of tasting, of breathing, of your heart beating, of your feet touching the floor, of the birds, of the wind and of the Universe that is all around you.

Experience the Vastness of who you are. Experience the Freedom of who you are. You are The Dude ? experience that. YOU are The Dude.

Actually I have to disagree wholeheartedly with this.

Your statements infer that I can only "attain" a state of Dudeism by emulating the Dude in all aspects.

This is not the case.

Stop trying to be the Dude and just get on with being!

Here here!
Free your mind and your ass will follow.
If you are truely Dude it will come out. Not out of your ass but... well...
Lost my train of thought.

Actually that's not what I'm saying. If we literally emulate the Dude in TBL, a Lot of us depending on where we are in the world will end up in jail. And that's not cool.

I'm not saying go out and do drugs or drink alcohol. I don't Drink, I don't do drugs neither Herbal or Big Pharma.

There is a Dude in each of us and what I was trying to do was present it from a Philosophical point of view. If that's not how it came across then I apologize for any mis-understanding that it has caused.

Yeah, it didn't seem to me that SirNels meant we should be the Dude. or that we should emulate aspects of the Dude. I think he just meant that we should each be the Dude in our own lives. He emphasized that the point was to be yourself. So emulating someone else's particulars would be the opposite of that. It's ironic. To be an individual, one must become the Dude. It's more of a poetical idea than a literal one.

There really should be a special grammatical category for words like "God" "religion" "fuck" "dude" and so on: words that are so sufficiently vague that they can really mean anything. they are like reversed funnels that instead of condensing ideas tend to explode them.
I'll tell you what I'm blathering about...

Sorry if you didn't mean it the way I read it.

But as many regulars here will know, I am against "preachyiness" and evangelism, unfortunately the way you have presented this causes me a lot of problems.

Please imagine this forum like your local Pub (or Bar, think "Cheers", only with a bunch of Dudes just lolling around the place exchanging views and a beer, sitting on their rugs) and at the moment what you seem to have done is storm into the middle of the bar and stood on a chair and started to shout at everyone drinking here that the end is nigh and this is how we should be doing things.

Now you are perfectly entitled to your opinion, you have just presented yours in a way that considering the environment here would only be met with opposition.

There is a certain vibe to the forum that I feel the way you have presented your posts so far just came across like you were telling me (us) how to do things.

I have no problem with the core of your ideas just take the jackboots off and leave them at the door. Try and remember there are a lot of us who have spent a lot of our lives getting here and a long time considering (and arguing, and defending) our points of view. Not that I have anything against youth, and enthusiasm.

Finally I consider "argument" to be the leveled and thoughtful juxtapositioning of differing points of view (not yelling at each other) a useful way of measuring the worth and depth of your points of view.

Here you might re-consider the way you are presenting your opinion in order for it not to cause others (me particularly) to just see it as someone shouting at us.

Think of this not only as a bar, this is a religious cloister, with rugs and beer.

Step gently and we (I) will not react so harshly.

Also you'll find Forumdude and myself arguing the semantics all over the forum. ;D

Reverend Curb

I think any of us who have studied/are currently studying any form of Buddhism, particularly Zen and the Pure Land schools have come into contact with this line of thinking of "you are X, X is no different from you"." However in the case of the Dude I find this to be a little more of some kind of new agey prophetic sounding mumbo jumbo.

Not that what you're saying is total bullshit, it's just something I can't get with in the context of Dudeism, it just feels like a metaphysical square peg.

But that's just my blah blah, yadda yadda...
Well, that's your perception.
