I have just discovered Dudeism and am embracing my inner Dude. The only issue of achieving total DudeNirvana is I am a recovering alcoholic. Is unDudeZen to not drink ? Is against the ways of the the Dude to stay sober? ???

I do not drink or smoke dude. I live in Pennsylvania and we cannot even get medical marijuana here.
I did make my own Kahlua and got a little tipsy tasting it to get it "just right", but I don't really drink but now and then.
You do not need to drink or get high to be a dude.

i have only been drunk a half dozen times or so. Just hitting a golf ball, nappin, gardening and even fappin are ways to reach a peaceful state.

I do however think powerful psychedelics can help achieve an enhanced state of inner thought that nothing not even the deepest states of meditation can reach. I don't think its for everyone but its helped me except the cost of legal defense for said psychedelics.

anyone up for golf?

Excellent! They would not be very happy with me at my AA meetings if I fell off the wagon . Been clean & sober for 110 days now . I have worked very hard to get to where I am at. I was up to a 1.75 liter of vodka a day (yes , seriously) and it just about killed me. I don't want to go back to that nightmare again.

Far fucking out, man! I have to get some time to watch it again, have to keep up with the dude.

I'm a recovering addict, been to plenty of meetings, AA, NA, and MA (marijuana anonymous).

I'd answer your question with a question. Do you think you'll do a good job of "taking it easy" if you start drinking again?

For most addicts (I'm including alcohol addiction in this term), the answer is no. There are probably some who wouldn't develop more than normal angers and emotional upheavals even while using. Even for these people, the dude thing to do when faced with overwhelming evidence that you should quit, and emotional and physical incentive to do so is not to hold on to their drug as tightly as possible. It's to let go.

I've cut way back.
Not yet on the wagon but I hardly drink at all any more.
I don't feel any less Dudely.

The 4th of July will mark 5 months of sobriety for me . I still partake in a J but not too often , I let the alcohol get completely out of control and I can't live that Life anymore if I wanna stay alive.

I just hit two years sober. Personally, I think the Dude's drinking and smoking are just some things he enjoys, not core to who he is. Without weed, without beer or white Russians, the Dude is still the Dude. It's like Walter smoking a cigarette. It's a simple pleasure which he enjoys. I think anyone who knows me will tell you that drinking makes me very undude.

Gone are the days of getting shit-faced and blowing all of my bones/clams or what have you on a good time. When I realised it was becoming my identity and I struggled to cope with shit while sober, I knew it was time to stop.
Nowadays, I do still smoke weed on occasion and have the odd beer at the weekend to keep my mind limber, but my wife and kids come before my hedonism. (That, and it's expensive!)

Respect to those who are dealing with drug or alcohol issues.
The dude abides ????
