Mixed feelings.
Remember.... China has routinely conducted spying activities in the US.
We have uncovered tons of digital espionage. And we can bet it's the tip of the iceberg.
It's inevitable that we would counter. Trouble is that a gun doesn't really care which way it's pointed.
Once the technology is there it will be used against Americans and people who don't support the police state. And as usual one way of the other the worm will turn to the point that the fuckers will actually view their activities as patriotism and safeguarding freedom.
It's the same old BS.

and the European Listening initiatives (ECHELON), and all the equivalent US stations are all listening projects that have been running for years now and there is no way they were all just listening to "the enemy", I have to agree with milnie "The Chinaman is not the issue here".

Well as long as the Chinaman is conducting espionage you can bet that the rest of the world will be answering in kind.

And as the amount of digital information grows you can bet that the technologies to sniff at it will grow in kind. Whether its' the government of corporations. It's sad but it's like arguing against water running down hill. I have friends who wont drive any cars that have an "On-Star" system or any such gizmo because they feels like someone can track their movements.
