Just a thought on "thread jacking." In many cases threads go for a long time more or less maintaining a focused subject, but it is not unusual for a thread to "morph" into new, and sometimes varied topics, that only partially relate to the original topic or not at all. We have all seen this happen.

If a thread has been deliberately hi-jacked, we can fix it in several way, including locking it, kicking out a troll, asking a dude to stop such behavior, etc., but most of the time, and almost 99.99% of the time here on the Dudeism board, trolling has not been a problem. I think we have only had one actual troll, some un-dude calling himself "Waldo" who Ollie gave the boot many moons ago. He hasn't been heard from since as far as I know.

So, let new thoughts and opinions flow in a thread, you never know where a thread will creatively go; perhaps new ideas, concepts and observations. And, I think everyone here is very dude like, mellow and knows how to abide without having to be told. This is an awesome group of dudes! All of you are great people to know!

Anyway, lets all keep our minds limber and open. Yes, there are rules, this is not Nam, but this is not fascism either.

OK, now I'm going bowling.

you know... you said it better than even i tried to... i probably shouldn't post when i'm feeling exasperated and edgy. thank you DB for your words of abidance xox

GOOS peace!

Cool, no problemo, mangs. I think any thread, within reasonable limits, can be a work in progress. Sometimes that alone can keep a thread interesting as new shit comes to light in it. Hell, sometimes even when a thread gets out of control it can be a blast, fun to read and mentality digest!

And, I think the nature of thread jacking really is just one dipshit trying to get all of the limelight and not sharing the wealth with everyone else.

Hey man, its all righteous, we're all abiding in our own way.

@thinkingdude  and  @Caesar dude ..............

Thanks dudes. Fortunately the Dudeism forum here abouts has a boat load of great people who contribute post after post of quality material. It never seems to stop and I for one can't even keep up with it all! What I do get a chance to read helps keep my mind limber in an uptight world. Marvelous stuff, man!

BikerDude

I amazed at peoples reactions to thread jacking.
I either respond or leave it alone.
Nuff said.

I mean I hate to state the obvious but why aren't people posting these concerns in the actual thread that is getting Jacked rather than tryna set down overall rules. If you aren't happy with what people are doing to a thread you started or even didn't start post a reply stating it.
Isn't this a bit like running to the teacher when something doesn't go your way on the playground?

Out here we are all his children

Like this you mean?  ;D  ;D

Quotea place where consenting adults can say what they like where they like without anyone "running off to teacher" to complain that the big boys are ignoring him and won't let him play.

Yep Biker dude you nailed it.

I believe we have decided to move on from this but it still rankles that because of one person who wasn't happy about the way WE do things around here managed to get a thread locked "because it was a good idea"

Peace dude.

It might be a philosophy already a part of many a path, but I think it is worthy enough to be included in any Dudeism philosophy; and that would be "respect all opinions and agree to disagree." Key point; "Agree to disagree."

The "agree to disagree" outlook, IMHO, is a necessary part of the growth of Dudeism thinking because as Dudeism evolves it is sure to have input from many many different people, points of view, cultures, backgrounds, education, etc., and there is no way all Dudes will see eye to eye on everything. That just isn't going to happen. Having said that, it is axiomatic that all opinions and short comings be treated with respect and a dude like attitude. After all, who here is perfect and all wise?

One dude said it this way.......

"In the essentials, let there be unity; in the non-essentials, let there be diversity; but in all things, let there be charity." Of course, there can be debate as to what is "essential" and what is "nonessential," but I think you dudes know what I'm saying. It's an attitude of maturity, fearless in the face of diverse opinion, acceptance of the human faults of others (I sure have mine) and a dude like enlightened vision.

Hey dudes, look at this way; you are making history by embracing a new and fascinating world view that could and should go on for centuries, if not longer. The "way of the dude" is just getting off it's feet. All opinions are welcome, but lets wield them with charity.

It's OK to be passionate about our points of view (it would be rather dull if you weren't), and even be bereaved about some "silly idea" of another dude, but were not saps!

It will take the group mind of all dudes to develop Dudeism into a working practical philosophy that the world will respect and hopefully embrace.

As always, all IMHO, dudes.  ;)

Abide in peace.

just for the record, thinking dude just suggested that the thread be closed because it veered off topic. and i agreed. but then people complained. so i opened it. we're not trying to slam anyone here.

no one is at fault here. and no one is trying to cut your dickscussion off. we're sympathizing here, dudes. and by that i mean, we're just trying to facilitate good and earnest communication.

you see what happens? you see what happens? what happens is, people express their opinions and their opinions are taken into account.

that's how we roll. there may be rules, but they aren't league bylaws carved into moses' tablets of 3000 years of beautiful tradition. we're still trying to figure them out. and they're up for revision all the time.

so let's just keep on making it to practice... that's the way the whole durn dudeist comedy keeps perpetuatin itself.
I'll tell you what I'm blathering about...

I'm not sure why there's a continued grievance.  Thinkingdude explined himself about trolling, we explained that wasn't what was going on, he worked out how we do things, everything was cool, I thought.

There were no incidents of pissing on anyone-elses' rug (abiding or otherwise) apart from one explosion, and that wasn't anything to do with TD in the slightest.  I'm not gonna call for a shaking of hands again, I guess it's too late for that, but... hells, I still just don't see the issue :/
