I seem to remember elephants getting drunk once a year while feasting on a certain fruit that fermented in their stomachs. One pic showed an elephant sleeping standing up, with his trunk wrapped around a tree.

There must be YouTube coverage somewhere...

In India and Sri Lanka there are "Toddy Farms" all over the forest (they cut into a certain tree and drain the sap which is then formented making Toddy!

However the Elephants can smell this and clearly like the taste as they are forever breaking up the stills getting smashed then go off rioting...a bit like our UK teens.

I always makes me laugh when I think of drunken elephants but they do sometimes kill the natives.
