the whole lebowskist thing is the reason dudeism is seen as a bit of a joke but like who gives a shit anyways ......fuck the man

Nothing is fucked here. If, by lebowskist thing, you mean, basing a religion on a movie--that is, recognizing and using it as a guide to living well--I think this is an integral part of the beauty of Dudeism. It's a gentle joke on the power we give to the roots of traditional religions. What better way to take 'er easy than to divest the meaning of life from Ultimate, Immutable Truth?

I believe Ed's reference is to the automatic thoughtless empty quoting from the film script as though just doing so made any sense at all.

As apposed to actually thinking about the message behind the words.

I was responding to pirate's comment about the perception of Dudeism by non-Dudeists. I'm a kind of an "enlighten the masses" dude.

It's alright I tend to be a bit down on the likes of the Facebook page because all I ever find there are numpties randomly quoting the film and if you look over a period of time you see that new people are just making the same [sarcasm]funny[/sarcasm] jokes that have been made time and time again, and from my point of view there is only so many times you can post "Careful there's a beverage over here!" before it gets a bit stale.

It's these people that Ed termed "Lebowskists" rather than Dudeists because all they are doing is seeing the film not the example which we find so inspiring in the film.

Though I do see some merit in the argument that the Lebowskist is potentially on the road to becoming a Dudeist. The way xians have lay preachers.

Ok, I got it now. I'm not a facebook person--still resisting it--so I'm not with that scene. Too bad about the shallowness. Yeah, education there would probably be lost, unless any little achievers find it on their own. Fuck it.

The enlightened eventually migrate here anyway.

I dunno if anyone has checked back onto the wiki entry recently, but I just have, and someone's been a'monkying...

The first line now reads:
Quote
Elz/Chonts founded this religion in 1780 in London.

Someone with a wiki account needs to set that thing straight, man.  Doesn't look like much else has changed, but we should still get a rehash of the entire page at somepoint anyway, as we were discussing above.

I got a wiki account, but I have not been active for several years. Only did a few minor edits, but was a bit active on the "Talk" pages there for awhile.
What would you wish the Dudeism article to say?
But be advised, no matter what we put up there, someone else will have a nit about it and do their own edit. One of the reasons I stopped signing in.
I do like the Talk/Discussion pages a lot though. I usually find them more interesting than the articles themselves. 8)

So who wants to start writing the Dudeism page to put on Wiki?

I dunno, man.  But just thanks for getting that crap out of the first line, CC :)

I don't mind taking on the task, but I'd have to run it by the forum and the Editorial We first.  It would be, as always, a slow-burn project that I'd hope others could jump in and get involved in.

I'll need some time off of work, some inspiration and some motivation, stat! 8)
