'Surrender': Japan Nuclear Workers Abandon Stricken Plant

FUKUSHIMA, Japan -- Japan suspended operations to keep its stricken nuclear plant from melting down Wednesday after surging radiation made it too dangerous to stay.



Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said the workers dousing the reactors in a frantic effort to cool them needed to withdraw.

"A part of the containment vessel is broken and it seems like the vapour is coming out from there. So... [it] appears to be that vapour is coming out from the broken part."

Errm not exactly: The following is a quote from a scientist I know in response to this claim.

"As well as the 2010 Chile quake. It is indeed mathematical, as we do not have the sensitivity of equipment to measure it. Also, it is important to note that these are shifts in the figure axis, that is how the mass is distributed about the main axis, it is not actually a shift in the spin axis."

We haven't been shifted off of our axis if we had there would be a lot more noticeable effects...no ...seriously....a lOT more effects. like maybe spinning off into the sun and being unable to communicate via the interweb.

Another quote... "We had all that hype about the earth axis shifting at the time of the 2004 tsunami event. It turns out (and I suspect it's the same for this event) that it's based on sheer mathematical ESTIMATION. No satellite had any instruments which had sufficient resolution to measure any detectable shift."

Don't believe the gutter press...or at least check out the facts...and I mean the FACTS! before regurgitating pseudo science. The disaster is bad enough without having to make shit up.

Japan raises nuclear alert level

   

Japan has raised the alert level at its quake-damaged nuclear plant from four to five on a seven-point international scale of atomic incidents.

The crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi site, previously rated as a local problem, is now regarded as having "wider consequences".

The UN says the battle to stabilize the plant is a race against time.

applied a complex model to perform a preliminary theoretical calculation of how the Japan earthquake?the fifth largest since 1900?affected Earth's rotation.
