I think it's good that it's tied, it's exactly the yin-yang, balance to what it should be.

we need that time to think before we act in some cases, and others it's paramount to just get it done without pussy footing about.

i truly think that the whole 'inner walter, inner dude' thing is what lies at the heart of dudeism and studying to understand it is greatly beneficial to us. or at least to me.

What can we deduce when Maude informs The Dude that her father has no money of his own? He mulled that over for a few then exclaims "...Oh man...I get it!"
He figured out he had been conned all along, then immediately calls Walter; exclaiming it's an emergency, to come pick him up to confront the big Lebowski, not so much about the money, but about being "used" as The Scape Goat by the likes of this paraquat of a human being.

The Dude just reacted to the event as it unfolded without giving much thought as to his next move other than confronting TBL about being used as the scape goat.

He doesn't give much thought when asked to be the bag man and deliver the money either. I mean who accepts the responsibility for a million bucks in a locked box without first asking to see the money?
