Meditating about TBL I had this insight...

I mean, it's complex, and, er, uhm, you know, but when you really look at it, I mean, well the thing is:

Jackie Treehorn got his money in the end!!!

From the fake-millionaire Daddy Lebowski! Of course, the briefcase was empty - or filled with phone books, maybe.
After Papa Lebowski (by the way, how likely is it he fathered Maude, being a spinal???) learned Bunny owed money, he himself faked the kidnapping using the Nihilists as agents - who were stupid enough to expect they could get money out of it. He may have instructed the Nihilists, how to proceed.

Instead, PL used the money to pay Treehorne (and maybe others).

Even Maude may have been in on the scam because she wanted to avoid a police inquiry.

That would explain why everything worked out quite well for the Dude and Walter, although PL accused him of stealing the money.

Everybody who wanted the money (back) originally, including Maude, stops looking for it.
Has that never occured to you?

YEah, What do you think?

Well, dude, we just don't know. Will have to check your leads out with the boys in the crime lab and like uh, you know, keep the mind limber. Also, will keep up a strict drug regiment and some coitus while all is considered.

The thing is, a dude could come to a hundred conclusions as to how it all get sorted out in TBL. That's one reason I wish the brothers Coen would produce a TBL II.

But, fucking eh, those are some good thoughts, dude.

Lao Dude

Reminds me of Christians asking "What happened to the apostles after Jesus died?"  or "Which Bible book is the oldest?" We just don't know.
"The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong , but to those who see it coming and jump aside." Hunter S Thompson, The Rum Diary

i like this thinking though, it is limbering up my mind, man. i needed that today.
the only thing i wonder constantly ( and i mean, i think about this daily) is what happens between dude pulling down his drawers for the doc and the happy joint hitting creedance car driving scene.
i will never get a good answer for that one.

FuckinA

I don't think that most of the male dudes here want to know that part...
Anyway, good thinking in this topic! It never occured to me, but then again; my thinking about this case became way too uptight!
Stop thinking too uptight, just take it easy and abide.

There has been speculation about that question at http://dudeism.com/smf/index.php?topic=821.0.

I'm of the mind that "Looking Out My Back Door" is a lighthearted reference to the prostate exam and massage (in order to get a semen sample) he probably just underwent. His enjoyment of the song was due only to its inherent merits, the influence of fine weed, and perhaps relief that the exam was over. But that's just my opinion.
