I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds here, as I don't want to offend The Dudely Lama, but I'd like to offer an IRC chatroom for the purposes of 24/7 chatting... One that's more idle-friendly and offers the ability to separate your chatting experience from your browsing experience.... I for one kinda hate chatting in my browser...

Anyone wishing to have another place to idle and chat can feel free to visit #dudeism on the server irc.sierranet.org.  Cheers!

totally far out. good idea, mang. the dudeism chat room's been a bit sparse. maybe we'll take it down and replace it with a page that features the #dudeism chatroom if it gets popular.
I'll tell you what I'm blathering about...

i just put the chat in a sidebar on the dudeism.com homepage. not sure if it looks good there or not. hopefully it will draw in more chatters. i'm worried that it's going to slow down the site a lot though. if not, i'll put it on some of the other pages as well in the sidebar.

if anyone knows a way to get IRC chat in a wordpress sidebar, let me know. or some other kind of chat that isn't too commercial or obnoxious-looking or makes you sign up for their service.

Putting it in the sidebar is probly not going to work.... U'd have to have separate page like u do with the current chat room... And honestly, even if you could, having a script or whatever running in the sidebar would generally slow down normal browsing, even if you're not actively "chatting" in the sidebar... Convenience is nice with the sidebar, but as far as performance goes, its just better to keep it on a separate page, so that only people who want to go into chat will enter, and thus the rest of us wont see a slowdown in your "browsing" of the site.

That's just my humble opinion.
