A question...especially to our American dudes.

Do you guys recycle?

And by that I mean household waste..

I have a little job in a waste recycling centre 4 days a week which pays the bills. Since working there I've become pretty disillusioned about peoples attitudes to the whole affair.

Basically most of the people who go there just wanna dump there shit as quickly as possible and get the hell out of there...and that means they just drop there shit in any hole...we have bins for everything..cardboard, metal, timber, electrical etc. Previously this was done on a sorta trust basis but recently we've been opening peoples bags that would normally go straight in the landfill bin and have found that they contain an assortment of crap..paint, everything electrical, wood, textiles..you name it it's in there...does nobody give  a fuck? Is it a pointless waste (forgive the pun) of time? Is it helping our planet? Does America even have recycling centres? And as the biggest consumers in the world if you don't why should anyone else?

Dude, that sucks. Here in Germany people are a bit more conscious about trash and the separating begins at home with specifically marked bins. The separation is pretty simplistic, its basically 3 kinds:
1.Any trash that has a recycling label
2.Any trash that doesnt
3.Leftovers and anything thats organic
Each bin gets picked up by a different garbage truck.

When I was in the US it always bothered me that there was no trash separation concept whatsoever - seeing that, as you pointed out, the US is the biggest consumer. Also I couldn't believe all the good stuff Americans just throw away, including food. Ah well, I dont wanna start rambling either...

Anyway, thanks for doing the job youre doing. Most people may not care but I'm sure the planet does. And maybe The Big Dude?

Well here in Israel they only separate bottles from the rest of the trash but there are strict dumping rules on what and where you may dump your stuff, I know for a fact that outside Tel-aviv there is a  mountain of trash stacked so High that it is a hazard for planes taking off and landing at ben-gurion international airport, I don't know whether or not trash in organized or recycled but I'm pretty sure most of it gets dumped, Israeli's aren't too keen on keeping there shit clean, anyone who's ever visited Israel will know what I'm talking about

The only reason bottles n glass are recycled is that it costs a hell of a lot more money to make fresh glass than melt down old stuff! Recycling  is about making money...marketed as saving the planet. awww man I'm not just rambling I think I'm having an acid flashback.
