DEVELOPING: A man with a gun has shot and killed two media members and wounded a third person on live television while they were filming in central Virginia and police are still searching for the assailant.

The two killed were identified by WDBJ colleagues as reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27.

A third person, who was being interviewed at the time of the shooting, was shot in the back and is in surgery, according to CNN. That person was identified as Vicki Gardner, head of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, by the Roanoke Times.

The incident occurred at 6:45 a.m. at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Va., according to Franklin County Sheriff Department spokesperson Phillip Young.

WSLS said police are still looking for the shooter and hope to have a description out to the public shortly.

A federal law enforcement official told Fox News the FBI's Richmond field office has responded to the scene and is participating in the investigation. The ATF said on Twitter it is also part of the manhunt for the shooting suspect.

2 journalists shot dead during live TV broadcast in Virginia

The shooting occurred live on television while Parker was conducting an interview outdoors about a planned anniversary celebration at Smith Mountain Lake, with Ward filming. As the camera panned to Parker and her subject, multiple shots rang out and several screams could be heard. As the camera fell to the ground, an blurry image suspected to be of the gunman came into view on the screen.

WDBJ tweeted about the incident earlier Wednesday morning:

Out here we are all his children

This unchecked aggression is not good. It ain't right when you're just trying to do your thing, earn a dollar, and get attacked.

There's lots of unbalanced people in the world.  We're forced to be concerned about 2 people dead thanks to media coverage, but kept from much greater atrocities by lack of media coverage.  Does the media have an agenda?  Duh...

I watched the full video of his as he was pointing his gun at them; he pointed at them for about a full minute at close range until he began to shoot and they didn't notice him standing there pointing the gun at them.

Yeah man, fucking unchecked aggression!! Good thoughts and prayers out to the families. This shit hurts to see, good people die! Fucked up, man!!

Many people are just a hair's breath away from snapping.  I blame it on parenting.

No doubt that has a very strong influence.
