Are we the last Dudes standing?
« on: August 20, 2015, 10:37:24 AM »
So a long time ago, thedudeshouse.com was where I abode, but it got overrun with spam and closed down (it is now re-open but it is harder to get into than Fort Knox so more of a closed circle than a public forum now) then there was the Lebowskifest forums, but I see they have scattered the fuckin ashes there as well.

Sorry if I'm out of the loop, but it seems like, aside from Facebook groups (a form of communication I do not abide) we are the sole survivors as far as TBL forums.

Would we be then considered the Ronin of The Church of the Latter Day Dude? Masquerading as madmen or drunks or vagabonds awaiting the day of our vengeance?

Or would that be just too exhausting?

I have phases with Fakebook myself.

Allegedly I am the major feed for certain friends, which is nice, but I feel I'm just recycling the same old shite half the time. After a while I begin to see stuff I posted months ago returning from other peoples threads. I think most of it (the posts) are just going round in circles.

Every day for me is a leap empty handed into the void!

All I can say is, it's a good thing I didn't know about those other Dudist sites. I'd never get anything done, and the rug isn't going to clean itself.

You've got a point there.

I'll be frank, as a new user to this board, it isn't actually very easy to navigate. Do we need all these different sections and subsections?

It is rather disheartening that there isn't a larger community, but it's beyond me how to get more Dudes into our little quiet beach community.

I had no luck proselytizing when I first became acquainted with this here thing. I had no luck later, either, but I stopped trying. People find what they need when they need it - or they don't.

Seems like the best way to spread the good word is to live the dream. People get curious, catch on, or roll their eyes. Whatevs.

Once the news came out about the third party companies that are making a living aggregating data from Facebook (and twitter and all the usual suspects) I more or less stopped using it/them.
For Example, there is a company that "harvests" amongst other things health info from facebook.
In essence if you mention that you have been sick, or your kids have been sick, or your 5 year old fell down at the playground etc etc...they file it away with everything else they are gathering about you. Then they sell a service to insurance companies to access all of these little pieces of info. They also sell to bulk snail mail/junk mail companies and god only can guess who else.

The most mundane things are going on your "permanent record".
And it's not tin foil hat stuff. It's real.
And extremely Orwellian.

Probably a good reason to rebel against it, but so little interaction I have with people that would constitute a social life as they say would be on those things. Twitter especially.

This is the thing I like least about Farcebook.  Every other website or forum I frequent does whatever they can to protect their users' information, but Farcebook gives it away like it's Halloween candy.

As for the "permanent record", all they're gonna' learn about me is that I like air-cooled VWs, movies, re-posting things I find humorous, curvaceous women, and being a smart ass, not necessarily in that order.  Big deal.

We need to go door-to-door with white Russians and our Walter-esque friends to show them what it feels like to Fuck a stranger in the ass and that's how we feel when they don't abide.

Agree wholeheartedly, but it's also how I found out about Dudeism.  I have a love/hate thingy with FB.  It's a decent tool for staying in touch with family and friends around the globe, but some of the wacked out, uncool, trash that gets posted really leaves a cat piss smell on the rug.  I've been super selective on who I share Dudeism, especially since I'm a total greenback noob, and still trying to find my footing in flip flops.  I do like this forum.  There are some seriously insightful thinkers, and I hope to tap into that in time.
