The science of stress or why we should take a load off.
« on: April 30, 2016, 02:49:03 PM »
After studying a mindfulness course recently, one of the things that stuck in my brain, was a discussion about the amount of stress we deal with on a day to day basis.

This level, or Allostatic load, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allostatic_load, is the weight we carry around that keeps us from abiding and taking it easy. The way we deal with this, is to (in dudeist fashion) say Fuck it and not worry about that shit. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allostasis).

The arousal cycle, to do with our hormonal responses to situations, (anger/ fear, happiness/ depression) also plays a part in maintaining the balance, with every high, comes a low, like a wave and our aim is to ride that wave and keep it as level as we can.

Interesting stuff dudes.

After several co-worker suicides they have implemented mandatory stress training where I work, you're right man some of that stuff is pretty interesting. It's crazy how you can carry around stress that slowly changes your personality without even realizing it.

I know right? I have an interest in biology and neuroscience, I like to know how the body and mind work and for me dudeism fulfils the soul aspect somewhat.

I was also interested in how much physical damage stress can do aside from driving people to despair, you can literally stress yourself a heart attack!

There are studies down there somewhere, that show people who take it easy, really do live longer.

It's nice to know, there are scientists out there, taking it easy to help humamity and I might look into this a bit more, right after a nap.

Hey dudes, I looked a little deeper into how and why stress affects us so much and found this;

Oh and sagedude, good find, man, will check the rest out at some point.

I have thought about stress being a wave and thought "are we surfers of stress?" If we are trying to maintain balance in our lives, are we riding the waves of emotion?

Being relaxed with a limber mind, gives us a better sense of where that balance is. Being grounded/ centred keeps us stable, while going with the flow.

Bill Hicks said life is a ride and I kinda agree. Some of us really enjoy the experience, others can't wait to get off. The more stress we have, the less we enjoy the ride.
