Thank You For Dudeism
« on: January 18, 2015, 11:23:47 AM »
This is a lot to read but it felt good to write.

I am young and have only just hit 18. My new year's resolution (I turned 18 late December) was to embrace Dudeism completely in order to live life so I can be happy. I was raised by my mother who was an active hippie back in her day and nowerdays embraces Dudeism herself. She introduced me to "The Big Lebowski", and our home has a few collages of The Dude himself. She bought me the Abide Guide a few years back, which I have been reading a lot. My dad's an author who does all these interviews and film deals for his books and is more like THE Big Lebowski. My mother left him because he was very un-Dude. He still hasn't changed.

I've not had the best of times. I'm young but a lot of shit has happened. Death and other shit. Last summer I was jumped and beaten up by a gang in an attempted mugging. It turned out they thought I was somebody else and let me go, but the damage was done. I was able to get over it quickly by remembering how the Dude remained chill when he got roughed up a few times, I mean even for mistaken identity like myself. Still got the scars but they remind me of how shit happens but you have to abide. I've done some dumb shit too. The usual kind of immature things we do when we're young, but I'm looking past them. Occasionally I may slip up and do something I regret, but I notice my mistake. The other day I lied about having work because I couldn't be bothered to go to a bar with some friends; I'd had a busy week and wanted to relax at home without having to make it sound like I didn't want to spend time with my friends. I felt guilty, I still do, so I arranged to go out with them in a few days to make up for it. Just so I can remove that guilt. Dudeism is helping me make good decisions and make up for any poor deeds. Just to keep my balance.

But I don't want to talk about loads of sad shit. Besides, it's exhausting to type. A lot of people would see Dudeism as a joke religion but what people forget is having a path to follow that involves being chill and happy helps people. Other religions exist and people go with it, even they don't make much sense. "The Big Lebowski" is the foundation for a new religion that involves no discrimination. A man, woman, of any sexual orientation or race can be a part of it. And if anyone were to argue the religion is based on a movie, other religions are based on books and scrolls and such and whatever works for them. And "The Big Lebowski" works for us. One day "The Big Lebowski" will be ancient and maybe there'll be some sort of Dudeist Church, which would hopefully be a bowling alley (hopefully).

Dudeism helps me abide through shit. As a young Dudeist Priest, I hope to keep Dudeism alive for where I am in my time and place, even if it's just me abiding. So thank you for reading, have a chill day.

I would like wise extend a hearty thank you to the fathers of Dudeism.
Although I'm afraid I may be a well know Walterist.

Out here we are all his children

This is an amazing post. When I was about to reply, I got the warning

Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.
Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic.

But I really wanted to reply as I just joined yesterday and saw this post only today.
My mind is having lots of shit due to things I could have done in past and dwelling over it all the time. My mind has taken over my body. Dudeism is the thing, which is keeping me alive. I just tell myself - What would Dude do in this situation. Well, its not as simple as it sounds to ABIDE, but I definitely gotta try.

Once again thanks for this post and hey - how come not many people reply on this forum man..

Thanks man. If I am still alive, it is due to dudeism. I am trying to abide.. Just that, my negative mind tries to take over with all the bad thoughts and every time I have to remind myself of "How dude would react in that situation". It is a complicated situation - lots of ins..lots of outs..But I'm trying to hang in there......Anybody else in this forum battling depression and getting help from dudeism ? ......and hey..Thanks for saving my life Dude.
