Interesting map

I was surprised when I brought up my state.
As earlier stated it seems to be a mix of Nationalism and Religion. Often mixed together.

Far out. It looks like North Dakota needs to pick up it's hate-game. They're getting buried. Like DB, I'm a bit non-plussed at the inclusion of "patriot" organizations as hate groups. Let's see what SPLC has to say about it.

http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2013/spring/active-patriot-groups-in-the-united-s#.Ubf9vvnWX0R

It says they "define themselves as opposed to the 'New World Order,' engage in groundless conspiracy theorizing, or advocate or adhere to extreme antigovernment doctrines. Listing here does not imply that the groups themselves advocate or engage in violence or other criminal activities, or are racist."

Seems like "crackpot" is more descriptive of the first two categories (NWO-phobes and conspiracy theorists). I don't know what "extreme antigovernment doctrines" means, particularly with the disclaimer about violence and criminality. I mean, I adhere to a fairly extreme antigovernment doctrine. So did the dudes who signed the Constitution...

Yikes.

"...as Americans ponder an updated take on the Second Amendment."

I get the impression the SPLC isn't talking about a constitutional amendment (i.e., the proper way to do these sorts of things). Amendments are hard. It'd be, like, way easier to just sign an executive order or have a judge say something like "hey, guys, we don't think you should have guns anymore. K-Thx-Bye."

Yeah I'd say that is over the line. But while they might not have feathers they do kind of quack like a duck.

About the only thing the Tea Party hates are taxes. 8) To that, they quack.

Should this be viewed as coincidence.

First a video by the tea party. The tea party is mild compared to groups like the militia movement.

Quotes from Jerad and Amanda Miller, the couple who killed two Las Vegas police officers and another person before committing suicide on Sunday .
Quote
We can hope for peace. We must, however, prepare for war. We face an enemy that is not only well funded, but who believe they fight for freedom and justice. Those of us who know the truth and dare speak it, know that the enemy we face are indeed our brothers. Even though they share the same masters as we all do, he reportedly wrote. They fail to recognize the chains that bind them. To stop this oppression, I fear, can only be accomplished with bloodshed. May the best men of our beloved nation stand and fight tyranny, without fear and without regret. May we stand proud as free men instead of kneeling as slaves.

At a certain point isn't there some sort of a "yelling fire in a crowded theater" type of culpability to the gamut of violent rhetoric from the lunatic far right fringe that really blurs at the lines of a group like the tea party? Tea Party being viewed generally as a mild semi mainstream group.

Quote
Los Angeles Times: What will protect us from tyrannical neighbors-The details out of Las Vegas are chilling: Two extremists declaring a revolution gun down two police officers in cold blood, kill a third person at a nearby Wal-Mart, then kill themselves in an apparent suicide pact during a gun battle with other police officers. An isolated incident? No. Just a few days ago a "sovereign citizen" , part of a movement whose members deny the legitimacy of the government , named Dennis Marx mounted a one-man attack on a Georgia courthouse, wounding a deputy before other officers killed him. His intent, police said, was to take over the Forsyth County Courthouse.

Good discussion...
