The Sacramental Green
« on: January 19, 2016, 10:06:16 PM »
So, we know marijuana is prominently featured in TBL. It serves, in various scenes, as prop, foil, macguffin, juxtaposition, point of conflict, and social commentary. The Dude tokes righteously through the movie, whether on-scene or mere insight into Bridges' role (the only direction he sought from the Cohens was to ask if the Dude burned one on the way over").

Does the sacramental green play a role in your relationship with Dudeism? I gotta admit, the weed in the bathtub scene looked mighty worshipful until the entry of a random marmot. Marijuana and yoga seem a natural match, particularly if you have the right rug in place.

I am plagued by one distinct issue with weed.... proximity.  I am truly all for it, but have to abide by the rules of the man where I live (Florida).   Took a trip out to Colorado this year and was able to enjoy the benefits of the locals while I was there.  Have to say it definitely makes it easy to stay in the right head space, but I'm doing pretty good without it until I can get it (all legal like) where I'm living.  I was glad to hear they are putting "Medical" back on the ballot for the next election.  Until then I'll just hope that Obama decides to make it his last great act for man by legalizing at the federal side before he leaves office :)

Rule #2 - Don't be a dick
Rule #3 - Learn the first two rules

Hell, he should do it just because it would piss off all of the right people.  ;D

Veering back towards the main topic, I went and got my "medical marijuana" card about four or five years ago because I've had Post-Laminectomy Syndrome (chronic pain after surgery to repair a herniated disc in my lower back) for a little over a decade now and, since I live in California, I wanted to be as legal about it as I could.  Turns out I don't dig getting stoned any more, especially since I was the only one partaking.  It helped with the pain, but since it only works while you're stoned it wasn't a practical solution for me.

That being said, I don't have a problem with weed or people who use it, and I still smoke it once in a while, but regular use just ain't my thang.  I do wish the U.S. Government would stop all of the bullshit and admit it's nowhere near as harmful as they've been saying for the last eight decades, but then they'd have to explain why they've been lying about it the whole time and we all know that's not gonna happen.
I don't go to church on Sunday
Don't get on my knees to pray
Don't memorize the books of the Bible
I got my own special way

I wish it were like that here in the UK, as its still illegal, ( Fuckin' fascists!).  However, i do partake on occasion, just for limber mind purposes of course. The need to smoke myself into a stupor, I left in my youth ( that and it's Fuckin' expensive at around 25 an 8th!).

I'm sure that the feds will soon reclassify it so that it will then be a state's issue.
Because it already is in several states.
I don't partake because it has the potential to screw up my life.
I used to have to piss test constantly because I was doing work that required it along with a background check etc.
A pot bust would leave me thoroughly fuct.

That said it is just silly for weed to be illegal while booze and prescription drugs are legal. And the preponderance of general bullshit lies that surround the effects of weed just sickens me. It's not even a question of a drug. It's become part of the "culture wars" where of course at least one side is generally 100% full of shit.

Out here we are all his children
