Dude, I hope he won't ruin the story with his three part Hobbit. I have not watched the first one yet, I wait for the three movies to come on BR extended version so I can have a marathon.

I'm really afraid of the result...

They have taken some liberties with the story line, but so far haven't left out anything from the books, choosing to add a few things here and there. But life goes on, man. No rashes yet.

Yeah, well, que sera, sera, as it is said.

One of the thing I look forward to this is the work of the WETA Workshop. I figuratively ruined myself over their work for LotR (bought 3 swords official replica, jewelry, and almost Sauron's helmet, but wifey said she would be glad to eat something during this month, so...)

Went to NZ too, and visited the Hobbiton set. Hobbits are the Middle Earth dudes, on most of their lifestyle.

Dude, that is way awesome.
What was it like checking out the sets? Would dig seeing it!

Have you seen this?........

Award winning unofficial prequel to The Lord Of The Rings dramatising Aragorn & Gandalf's long search for Gollum directed by British filmmaker Chris Bouchard. Based faithfully on the appendices of the books this is a non-profit, serious homage to the writing of J.R.R Tolkien and the films of Peter Jackson.

I'm gonna watch this (once at home).

It was awesome, visiting the sets. Most where natural NZ landscapes, like the Mount Doom, Mordor, Mount Caradhras.
The studio sets, like Fangorn forest, Rivendel, the inside of BaggEnd... were made in studio so not able to visit.
Helms'Deep, and Minas Tirith streets were shot in a stone-pit, which has kept working after the movies were shot.
The Black Gate was shot on a military land, so, no trespassers allowed.

Concerning the hobbits ( ;))

The hobbiton village was created near Mata-mata, in the center of the northern island, in a farm, with sheeps (which filled the set with defecations, btw).
It was almost completly removed, as it was scheduled in the contracts between New Line and the farm's owner, after the scene were shot. When people started to ask for visiting, the landlord had $$ in the eyes and asked if he could keep what was remaing of the set, white wooden entrances, and the tree. It was awesome to discuss with the guide (nice redhead, which added some awesomeness) about the anecdotes of the movies, the making of, discussing what I leanred in the bonus DVDs...
When I visited there was a second part showing how they shaved sheep... Didn't really knew why it was included, but my inner gollum was like "Hey, just visited the "real life" Hobbiton" so I did not cared a bit. I don't know if they kept it.

All I know now is that Hobbiton was rebuild, since "the Hobbit", and left as in the movies, with the green round doors, the flowers,...
They added a real pub from the set "the green dragon", if I remember correctly, with beers and stuff.

I visited the WETA caves in Wellington, but could not visit the WETA studio (confidencial stuff about other movies, Tintin, Evanglion -aborted  :'( - and others). Its a little place, were stands a life size Lurtz's statue, the most of the weapons set, elvish armors, sauron's glove, rings, books,...

I learned a fun story there : a rich lady once buy a 500 ca gold replica of th One Ring, rented a helicopter, and dropped it in a volcano. Dunno if it's true, but it made me smile.

I'll pour some photos. Gotta ask wife first (was our honey moon so...)

I dunno know man, I was actually somewhat disappointed by The Hobbit. They changed the design completely. LOTR was such a well made series because of all the insane orc costumes n stuff and now most of it is just animated thank to guillermo del toro

Well, we'll see. What frighten me most is what they might have done with the dwarves, like almost ignoring most of them except for Thorin.
But I really appreciated the national effort NZ made about this movie. I don't know if you saw all thespecial event/stuff they made. My fav is the movie from NZ Airlines, where they give the sets of flight middle earth like (dwarves, elves, gollum, horses, P. Jackson cameo,...). I never saw this for another movie and/or country.

That's the problem with Computer Animation; when is it taken too far so that a movie is nothing more than a glorified cartoon?
