Perhaps I've not understood but I don't think it would be dudely to be in the background supporting someone else, I would call that homemaker and that's 1950's mentality.
How about someone like mama cass?

See I was a little bothered by the way this discussion was going as well.

It's a pity we have lost so many of our female participants here, because phrases like "good Homemaker" don't ring true for any Dudeist for me (ref the bacterial culture in my sink at the moment).

I don't see how the term "Good Homemaker" is bad... It implies exactly that- someone who is good at making a home for his/her family, and I think that's very dudely. It doesn't mean she's supporting anyone or left in the background, she's just being a good wife and mother. Nothing bad about that. Unfortunately nowadays there are too few good homemakers because everyone's too busy working to pay for their Lexus, big house etc. instead of raising their children.

I can hear the sirens of the PC brigade coming now dude.
Perhaps spending your time like that can be dudely but to make that statement gender specific is a bit uncool. That said, if I was going to suggest someone in that way I would go with Peggy from married with children: does bugger all, always up for coitus. The antithesis of homemaker seems more dudely

I copy that, and a thousand time !

Uses zesty coitus as weapon on Al. And one other thing that let the actress in my mind is Futurama, whe coices Leela Turanga.

Which makes me think about Bender, who is, despite tge robbery and violence, the first Robodude, I think.
I'm the Dothradude, Dude.

Just take it easy man...
I never implied only women were homemakers, you misunderstood me is all. Yeah in the 50's that was how it was (traditionally) but things have changed a lot since. I too agree no need for gender specifics either, lots on males are good homemakers too nowadays, and that's cool, that's cool.

Far out on the Peg Bundy idea, she is pretty cool man! I never understood why Al wasn't engaging in coitus with her constantly...

No worries dude, nothing's fucked here. Including Peggy!
As I said at the start I may have misunderstood your initial idea. It's just I'm filling the role of homemaker just now and I don't feel very dudely. It's quite stressful :(

No problemo man... as far as your homemaker role, just try to roll with the strikes and gutters. It's a good thing you're doing! And most importantly, remember to tak'er easy! :)

Judd Dude it wasn't particularly aimed at you. It's just in the past certain reactionary christian web sites have been known to jump on things like we all call each other Dude therefore we must be sexist, when the opposite is true.

And it's one of the eternal problems of this medium of communication, difficult to see someone elses eyes when your all talking by text.

I must admit I did look at your initial post and think to myself "And walk twenty paces behind her man and ensure her shadow doesn't soil his person".

But as you say you weren't actually being gender specific with the home maker comment.

Much like praying and churches, if home making is our thing why not find your inner Dude in it.

I myself have to admit that I am on the edge of buying some new cutlery so that I have some more clean knives and forks, so you can guess where I stand on this issue.

Far out man it's totally cool. I didn't take any of that personally and my "just take it easy man" comment was tongue in cheek (of course). It's easy for things to be misinterpreted in text and possibly spin outta hand so I understand. And, I definitely think it's way undude to be walking behind someone else in the shadows- can you believe there are cultures that still promote this?! It's a crazy world we're livin in, if only everyone could learn to abide... be a lot better place... look at me, I'm ramblin again...

As for your new cutlery, spend some clams if you can and you'll be a lot happier when you use em. I do 99% of the cookin in this a'here bungalow and nothin's worse than a set o cheap knives!

Could not agree more, nothing worse than digging into a nice steak only to have your blade come away separate from your handle.
