Hemp: Could the US rekindle its love affair?

Hemp, once a major US crop, has been banned for years because of its close association with cannabis. But several states now want to resume hemp farming, and two states voted this month in favour of legalisation of cannabis. Could change be in the air?

There's an all-American plant that weaves its way throughout the nation's history.

The sails of Columbus' ships were made from it. So was the first US flag. It was used in the paper on which the Declaration of Independence was printed.

Being a sailing nation the UK had huge crops of it for rope making, sail making etc.

As I always say on the subject:

Legalise it, control it, quantify it, tax it. Take it out of the hands of the criminals, it becomes purer, and removes all the shite the people "cut" it with to increase the volume and bolster the profit margins.

I also believe those states that have legalised the medical use are making millions of dollars from the tax on the legal sales.

Yup, and they're laughing at the other states who simply don't get it.

Actually i think we should start a campaign to get the wetsern world out of this economic depression it's in:

"Legalise Cannabis,

Control it,
Standardize it,

And make millions from Taxing it!

Its the only sensible way to dig the world out of this depression it's in.
And if that doesn't work, who's going to care less?
We'll all be stoned off our boxes anyway!"

Works for me.

I may be a non-toker, but damn, I wish it were legal. Makes more sense, could help economies, and it's a lot safer than most other things out there. Hell, cough syrup can fuck you up more (as I found out accidentally) but it's legal. Besides, I'd even think about being a hemp farmer if they did legalize it. :)
