Poetry (Dudeku/Annual)
« on: January 09, 2011, 06:51:11 PM »
Roll on, Dudes - any kind of poetry here: lyrics (to songs unsung), rhymes that help move the day along, free form, Dude form  - what have you.

Thanks to CD for breaking the cherry on this thread, coolio - step up, compeers, it's your throw. Dudes please leave your name (or handle you want to use) under your contribution, cheers.

How about this to start?

 The Outsider

Stranger in town how do you survive?
Nobody knows you who cares you're alive.
But you shine like a diamond, aloof and aware.
You are the outsider that's why you're there.
It won't be long, no there's the first.
Do you need refreshment? Do you have thirst?
Or just conversation, a quiet little word.
What do you know? What have you heard?
Well I'll tell you Sir, what you want to know.
Of heaven above and of all hell below.
What's that? Gone weak at the knees?
Stay for a while let me tell you stories.
Of stress and some pain and lost love regained.
Of journeys and travels and monsters been slain.
Of a journey through time that was taken alone.
And a heart that has loved but been turned into stone.
Let me regale you with tales that need to be aired.
Of times that were happy and rage that was shared.
Of love that was true but smote into dust.
Of battles that were lost, and lots of mistrust.
So where do you go my long lost new friend?
Won't you share in my pain? Be there at the end?
You have to leave? Well I understand.
You cannot stay here lest you be damned.
Leave now or stay if you must.
Listen to your instincts go with your trust.
The stranger may drown you, drag you deep in despair
Look! Where he was standing. There is no one there.

Hope you enjoy....

Thanks CD, I really enjoyed that, man - far fucking out! A Dude-like poem, indeed. Just one note: is a 'be' absent from the first line of the 5th verse? "with tales that need to be aired" Just curious, that's all (will save editing later) - if it's your authorial intent (or what have you) to leave as is,  that's fine, too. Wow, thanks again, man.

Here's a blues song penned by a friend of mine - no tune, yet: musical Dudes feel free.

J. L. Allyn

My life was just fine, so free and so easy.

My time was all mine, each mornin? and evenin?.

My house was my home, and I was alone,

But I wasn?t lonely.

Then I met Marie.  She smelled like a flower.

In under a week, I was under her power.

She landed in jail, landed me with the bail,

And left while I showered.

Now, Rose, she would sing, in a local dive bar,

The voice of an angel, gonna be a big star.

Then she hit the crack, hit up my friend, Jack,

And took off with my car.

Annabelle was a dream.  She had a good job,

Both pretty and smart, and not even a slob.

But her secrets, see, very quickly had me,

On the run from the mob.

Headed for the coast, and there I found Jean.

She was the most, all long and lean.

My nights were a treat, ?til she crossed the street,

And married Francine.

So I went back east.  I?d made up my mind.

No more women for me ? to oneself be kind.

Then here came Louise, who hid her disease,

Before robbing me blind.

Now, I just stay in, where I won?t get burned.

I am my best friend, and here?s what I?ve learned:

?Alone but not lonely,

Is better than lonely but not alone.

I think it goes here??

It's not quite a poem a not quite a's my feelings though.

Waking Thought

You're my every waking thought you?re my emotion

You're my one desire you're my devotion.

And I love you too much baby

And I love you always

You're my every waking thought you're my emotion.

Thought I knew you very well

Thought I knew myself too

But I didn't know anything

I just knew that love was true.

You're my one desire baby

You're my one emotion

Since you've been like this baby

Since you cannot speak to me

I've found my destiny is you

And it means so much to me

You're my every waking thought

You are my emotion

You mean everything to me

You are my devotion.

You all know what this about. I just needed to write...

Han Shan, that great and crazy, wonder-filled Chinese poet of a thousand years ago, said:
We're just like bugs in a bowl. All day going around never leaving their bowl.

I say, That's right! Every day climbing up
the steep sides, sliding back.

Over and over again. Around and around.
Up and back down.

Sit in the bottom of the bowl, head in your hands,
cry, moan, feel sorry for yourself.

Or. Look around. See your fellow bugs.
Walk around.

Say, Hey, how you doin'?
Say, Nice Bowl!

By David Budbill

Very cool - posted by The Dad Abides

Ah, silly me - I thought that The Dad Abides was the author; still, a Dudely poem, I feel.

This is for my special lady friend.

When I hold your hand now, and you squeeze it when I ask
I don't wish to make it hard for you to or to make it such a task
It means I want you to get better and I'm trying to help you mend
I've been here since the start of this and I'll be there at the end

I'm being oh so patient but sometimes that runs out
That's when I leave and hide a bit and silently shout
You lay there, oh so quietly but your eyes tell me what's right
Like "help me John" or "stay with me" or "please don't say good night"

But I have to leave you everyday no matter what I feel
Cos although this isn't happening, unfortunately it's real
Our lives have just been broken, shattered into smithereens
But I love you forever and remember all our dreams

I will never ever leave you no matter what the cost
Because you came back to me when I thought love was lost
You treasured me within your heart and believed I was "the one"
And I will honour that with you until our time is done
