Imagine if you will, a young Jeffery Lebowski. Before he was "The Dude". Before his Gran Torino was marked with wear and age. Attending college with his buddies, abiding as any one can, passing time with extra curricular activities. Occupying various administration buildings, smoking thai stick, heckling the ROTC, and bowling...Now imagine one day he is stopped by the police for littering (Que Alice's Restaurant), only they find that he was littering a roach. The fascist proceeds to "book him"....

Maybe a situation like this can explain more about the Dude's views, and lifestyle as he appears in 'The Big Lebowski'

Although the Dude has specific values and views, he still is breaking the real LAW.

...Now, why were the police called when Walter pulled a fire arm during league play at Holly Lanes?
And why did the Dude report his car stolen and mention the missing briefcase and his stolen rug?
Obviously to progress the story for the story's sake, but it's in pure contrast of his values. Why put faith and trust into the system that is corrupt and undeserving of it, when clearly his misfortuntes are tied together with him at the center as a suspicious character?

It begs another question: How should we view the law? With certain leisures like the Dude does, or with a strict adhearance to them?

I mean, when it comes to the law its all or nothing, as far as I'm concerened. a cop who runs a red light off duty or  throws a cigarette butt out the window, or neglects his taxes is breaking the law just as equally as the man who murders or rapes. Although the gravity of the crimes varies completely, and a religious person would claim on the law of god matters; this is just not the case when it comes to the world we live in.
It's still the law.

So where do Dudeists stand when it comes to the law? Are  we for it or against it, I personally am a constitutionalist, but at the end of the day, i support some system of law.

You're damned if you dude, you're damned if you don't.

My view on the law is that some crimes are just a matter of distance or lines drawn on a map...

Let me explain...If I possess cannabis where I live in Norwich, England I can be sent to jail....if I possess the same bit of weed less than 40 miles away in Holland...no penalty....If I travel further East to Saudi...I will do 4 years hard jail time....if I keep going East to Singapore I can end up headless...

I think we all have to support some kind of law and order so that we don't descend into chaos but I just wish we could all be a bit more lenient with each other....if we're not hurting anyone else where is the crime?

I don't think the dude has anything against the police...if anything he's a bit naive about what they can actually do...the weary officer clearly has far more serious crimes to attend to thus his statement of "having four officers assigned to the case"

I had my car stolen from outside my house a few years ago....didn't ever see a copper! I just called and they gave me a number for my insurance company....it aint worth their time although if I'd caught the little shits that stole it I'd have meted out my own instant justice and guaranteed I'd have ended up on the wrong side of the law.

I guess that's life dude.

Peace man.

yeap, though i had a car stolen too, and the police DID find it, but they charged me impound, towing, and recovery fees that with the damage done from losing the car, it just shows they are a business and not really interested in helping, or sworn to anything other than doing their job so they can go home too.

Yeah I forgot about that bit. They charged me 180 quid to get the thing towed to a  garage where they supposedly fingerprinted the car...the insurance paid but that ain't the point....the good news in this little tale is that when I went to view the car, in the boot was a tool kit that clearly didn't belong to me! Result! :)

Yea, the car thief in my case actually repaired a dent in the side door and left a buck knife the size of kansas in the back seat, not exactly used for hunting considering we were in the middle of the city. I didn't want anything to do with that mess so i dropped that back off at the po station...He also left some rap cds with music about robbing cars on it, no shitting.  This asshole actually steals cars then plays rap songs about stealing cars while he's driving them...the nerve.
i didn't keep the cds either.

Did you recover your briefcase? Did they find any leads? I mean are they going to find the human paraquat?

You went to the police station and said "forget about the fucking buck knife!" "You want a buck knife? I can get you a buck knife, there are ways, officer, believe me, you don't want to know."  ;D

Yea he deffinately was. As long as the thread is here I figure I'll throw my two cents out about another law-ish topic I'd like to discuss....

What do we do when a bunch of facist alien monsters or vatican city forces tell us we can no longer practice dudeism?
the big L would say "the bums lost" and that would be the end of it. We would roll over and move one, abiding for another day in our own private way.

carrying on the tradition of 'fuck it".

But how does this help our cause of spreading the word of the dude? If our mouths are kept shut and silenced in the threat of religious tyranny.

this will not stand man!

So, i propose an order of dudeist warrior monks, or maybe even some brother shamus orders.

big brother has eyes everywhere, and so should we.

I'm not 100% on how this should work, but thats like, my opinion man.
You're damned if you dude, you're damned if you don't.

It is not the "law" that is the problem, it is greedy ignorance. Cannabis prohibition is not based in theories of law, it is based on retardation, social, scientific, spiritual retardation.

It can and has been demonstrated that prohibition is harmful to society, far more harmful than the "drugs" ever could be. Prohibition retards social progress.

Science has demonstrated cannabis use has no significant detriment, no health risks, and has shown potential for many health benefits. To continue prohibition is to retard scientific advancement for our species.

For thousands of years humans have been using cannabis to expand their awareness of reality, to seek deeper meaning for life. Prohibition retards human spiritual development.

So it is correct to call prohibition retarded, and it's supporters retards, it can not be prooven otherwise, so go ahead, point and declare them retards. If they do not like it, remind them they have a choice, they don't have to be retarded.

This is also the greatest source of discontent with the "law", the schism it has created is probably the most retarded part. The purpose of the law is to protect civilization from the uncivilized, yet cannabis prohibition is one of our most uncivilized laws.

Legalise it, standardise it, tax it. All "drugs".

Koog
your thread has been kind of sidetracked, lots of ins and outs to keep track of
But I understand your main issue with the law. You have your story, I have mine.
What was I talking about?
oh yeah that was it, as long as you keep your gold-brickin ass out of my beach community, or isolated northern metropolis/venue, we'll get along just fine. I'm not 40 miles away in Holland, but there is a line that you will cross. And if you cross it, well then we'll make another line.
gotta go but this affects us all man...
Is this your only ID?
