Dudespeak: your regulars
« on: May 23, 2010, 04:13:06 AM »
How often do you Dudespeak in your everyday life? And what are the ones you manage to fit into convo most often?

I used to quote TBL 95 percent of people have no idea what I'm saying otherwise. You know, there is always room for "Far out, man" "That's interesting, man, that's fucking interesting" Etc.

Now I have taken to Dudespeak regularly; whether or not the company is privy to the new shit that has come to light. Due to my derby name (The Dude a-Rides) and my bumperstickers, and in general my rep. for being ExTREMELY chilled out in any given situation, more and more people I know are becoming familiar with my Dudely nomenclature.

Here are the ones I get in most often: (and I mean, in proper context...actually pertaining to the situation at hand, not just randomly spouting Dudeise)

Well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man
Abide ,
The Dude Abides
referring to the royal 'us'/'we'/'our'

Just take it easy , man
Joo got it mang (boy that one confuses people a LOT)
I could be just sitting here with pee stains on my rug. ( i am amazed sometimes how often this one is pertinent in my life, and not only metaphorically)
Private residence
Do a J
Far out, far fuckin' out!
OH Jesus what's that smell man
(again...more often than i'd like)
in the parlance of our times
. (once again...strangely reoccuring...since my teenage daughter informed me she and her buddies have a running joke going where they say "Vagina"...strange co-incidence. Now we both use it for our own reasons)
I dig your style, man
Got a whole (____)-thing going on...

Wendy is single and consiously looking to date a Dudeist. Shared values, mang!

I'm finding myself doing it more and more "parlance of our times," "far out" "that's interesting, man (often with the F left out with lil' ones around) and a whole host of others.  Seems they creep into the language much like how whatever the Dude said came from another source. :)

also when I start to lose my cool, I remind myself how "undude" I'm being and keep my agression in check. :)

A good friend of mine is named Jesus, so whenever i see him I say "Nobody fucks with the Jesus!" And he is from Africa so the traditional name sounds like Jeez-us.
Whenever I'm hanging around beatles fans or watching across the universe with some friends I tend to randomly spout out in Donny's voice:
"I am the walrus".
I also tend to talk to people like my dad, or stressed out people telling them "You're being very un-dude right now!"

Just a couple that I notice to re-occur.
To be dude is both a philosophy and a way of life.

My daughter gave me a tape of TBL years ago and I recently got around to watching it.
And it kinda dawned on me why she gave it in the first place.
I've been taking it easy for as long as I can remember, I think.
Although my beveridge of choice was previously dark rum (and I'm still fond of it with butter and hot water) I am a complete convert to the caucasian.
Party on dudes.
If you believe you can tell me what to think.
I believe I can tell you where to go.

I don't Dude-rap - at least not consciously; my wife, though, tells me to "abide" when she wants me to shut-the-fuck-up. Cheeky.  ::)

I have noticed that Klaus and myself have started to refer to each other as "Dude" more often.

I have noticed that Klaus and myself have started to refer to each other as "Dude" more often.

I can't really imagine it, I'm not sure any of the dozens of accents prevalent on these British isles really suit the use of the word "dude", least of all our southern dialect.  I've always been fond of "man" and use that regularly.

Of course, it annoys me that when I refer to man or men people think I'm talking about males, not humans.  The old word was a male was a were, hence the term werewolf, or man-wolf, and the old term were and wife.  As such, I like man as a good generalisation, older than and equal to "dude".  Yes, I am a man for my time and place, and that was about 1200 years ago :)

You know, it's shifting between two languages, English (on this forum) and Polish (at home), so I need to learn two sets of Dudespeak for different occasions. But my family already started to play with some words and I think we'll learn pretty soon.
