I have a ten year old boy...he's a son of a dude therefore a dude...The Big Lebowski is an 18 certificate film....son see's the dvd cover...says "hey dad this guy looks cool...can we watch the movie?" Now I have no understanding of cencorship but I have a problem with all the cuss words (in front of my kid you unnerstand)

He says and I quote "It's ok dad I watched 8 mile with mum!"  I said, "go ahead my man let technology educate you, I shall make popcorn.

I am sorry I do not know of this supreme court ruling !

I am an ignorant Brit and have absolutely no legal rights whatsever in the country of my birth.

They can photograph and film me on cctv but I cannot photograph public buildings...they can arrest me under the terrorism laws for almost anything. Literally..seriously...honestly!

I cannot protect myself or my family in my own home (if I damage the burglar in any way I will be the one to be arrested!) I cannot climb a ladder without a health and safety briefing or endanger myself in any way at all...ie playing conkers...or throwing snowballs. So whatever amendments you have be grateful for.

We British folks have none ........ whatsover!

I took the lad bowling on Saturday funnily enough...n you know he aint no Donny...strikes and gutters man! But the main thing is he enjoyed himself and we enjoyed the day..

Now I'm exhausted after all that...would you like me to roll a J?

I dunno.  I think children are a natural at just plain abiding.  They haven't had as much time to become hung up on rules and societal norms, which can make people more uptight as they get older.
At least I'm housebroken.

Well, IMO about all the cussing in the movie, I guess there's really no way of protecting kids from cursing anymore. Its too much a part of society these day's I'm not saying you should teach him to swear but, I'd be making sure my kids was well armed with a well rounded vocabulary so when some fucking Nihilist comes along to ruin his day he'll be able to handle himself. Besides its all clean cussing there's nothing too derogatory in the movie, I'd have a harder time explaining why they pissed on the rug than why they cuss so much.

Ah thinking about the past...  brings back so many memories.

showing TBL to my 12 year old son. As I thought at the time, its a bit of cussing, etc. no problemo

I forgot right near the beginning Bunny offers to "suck your cock for a thousand dollars"

mom did not like that one, she had forgotten also. Oh well its undies over the bridge as they say.

I was cussing more as a 10 yr old than most people 3 times my age; raised on a farm.  The F bomb was not as well used then as it is now, but its all relative.  Crap used to get some kids in trouble.  So did ass.  Now, ass is all over the place on TV.  I have 4 kids, oldest is 13, and what happens is the older one watches stuff the younger ones shouldn't and.....well, the kids abide.

I swear a lot. My ex swears a little. My son swears when we are not around.... I'm sure!  :) The film was a hit with the boy as the dude dresses exactly like him at the weekends! Boxers, t shirt, bathrobe!  8)
