Hi, folks--
I'd be hugely surprised if his name hasn't popped up already, but I'd like to nominate Alan Watts as one of the Great Dudes in History. He spent a lot of time talking to people and writing about Zen, Eastern philosophy, etc., but he did so as a "Spiritual Entertainer" (his term) more than as an uptight guru or preacher. For my part, we could do with a few more spiritual entertainers 'round the place.
As I said--I'd be surprised if his name hasn't popped up. Just wanted to add my support to get'im to the finals.

Reading Alan Watts to me is like taking a nice, long drink of water when I am really, really thirsty. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed his writing style.
