Title: The forums need to shrink
Post by: Dr. Coyote on April 08, 2019, 08:06:58 AM
Fellow dudes!

I love the idea of this forum and that's why I find myself with an account here now, but if my time as a community manager online has taught me anything it's that these boards are spread way too thin. There's 50+ boards (including subforums) at the disposal of on average 150-200 active members at peak hours - some of these subforums haven't been touched in years.

In the interest of boosting activity, getting rid of bots and cleaning some cobwebs I suggest we remove/merge a lot of these abundant boards and make the whole site a lot less cluttered.

Also, the favicon in the bar at the top? Gotta change, man. The white anti-aliasing edges really un-ties the room.

So, just to sell my point a bit:

What we have right now is a lot of duplicate or unnecessary boards that could easily be squashed into single threads within a subforum. For instance, we have a subforum dedicated entirely to posting jokes, when that could easily just be one thread under "General Discussion". Same goes for "That's interesting, man. That's fucking interesting", "A Day in the Life of a Dude", "The Dudeocrat Party" and so forth - a lot of these can easily be squeezed into just one subforum, reducing the spread of content. The "Dudesit Art" category has 4 subforums - squeeze it into one singular subforum under General Discussion, and encourage people to post their own creative adventures as well and you've got a nice solid sub-community!

Here, I took the liberty of lining up what I believe to be an optimal setup for the forums/subforums:

Has it ever occurred to you, man, that given the
nature of all this new shit, that, uh, instead of running around blaming,
that this whole thing might just be, not, you know, not just such a
simple, but uh--you know?
