Title: TV: Lodge 49
Post by: BikerDude on August 07, 2018, 06:34:32 AM
They are billing it as a TV Lebowski.
The jury is still out.
The first episode was last night.
It looks like it has potential but it's too early to say for sure.
But it's of interest to TBL fans for sure.

As shiftless layabouts go, Wyatt Russell's Sean 'Dud' Dudley, of AMC's charming, funny, and delightfully odd new series, Lodge 49, ranks pretty high. He's somewhere between The Dude and Jeff Spicoli, but with a air of tragedy to help account for his idle ways. Dud's been unmoored by the death of his father a year prior, which set in motion the loss of his father's pool cleaning business and their family home. All of which finds Dud living down to his moniker. Jobless, homeless, and in debt to both his sister Liz (Sonya Cassidy) and an unscrupulous pawnbroker, Dud's prospects are grim. That is until he stumbles upon a ring belonging to a member of the Lynx lodge, Lodge 49. When fate finds him literally and figuratively out of gas in front of the very same lodge, Dud finds himself on the cusp of something potentially amazing.

I was searching by last upload date on 'The Big Lebowski' like I normally search once in a while and I saw some guy interviewing some other guy about how this show was imitating the masterpiece, and the main guy didn't agree.

I show the trailer, seemed cool, they copied the outfit style and some other stuff and added a story. I can't see the series on AMC because those shits blocked my country.

I think it celebrates The Big Lebowski but it is it's own thing.
It is apologetically based on "The Crying Of Lot 49" by Thomas Pinchon.
Hence the title. "Lodge 49" and several characters come straight out of the pages.
But the main Character's name is Dud and he resembles the Dude in may ways.

Yeah, seems alright, I'll use a proxy, those things that put you in another country, don't know if that's the correct name. Can I watch the first episode without subscribing to AMC Premium or what they call it?

Online I believe you can watch the first 2 episode.
I bought the season (along with Better Call Saul) on Amazon prime.

I'm also watching Better Call Saul, very nice, might even like it more then Breaking Bad.

Yeah I watch that also.
I wouldn't say as good as Breaking Bad but it's good.
Last season dragged a bit IMO.
The whole Chuck / Jimmy dynamic got old.
I'm glad Chuck is dead.

The interesting thing for me is that Bryan Cranston has been very outspoken about the idea that Walter White did not die.
And Vince Gilligan has said that he wants to follow the present day Jimmy / Saul after Better Call Saul runs it's course.
That takes us back up to present day where Walter White either lives or is dead.
The possibilities are really great. Heisenberg surviving in prison and getting out somehow.
Jessie's story continuing.
Jimmie trying to stay on the lamb. They've already hinted that his identity is in Jeopardy.

Bryan Cranston doesn't think Walter White is dead..

You never saw a body bag. We just assume he's dead.
He looks alive at the end.?

Just think of the ratings and the money.
I know the network would love it.
The finale was already one of the all time most watched things in TV history.
Can you imagine if it came back?

I need to catch this Lodge 49 thing. In the meantime, I'm balls-deep into Better Call Saul. Every season has improved. Only an episode or two into this one, but it feels solid. Its heights approach Breaking Bad, but it feels a bit more inconsistent. Of course, Breaking Bad had a couple clunker-seasons in the middle of its run before righting the course. I like where this is going. Feels like the plot lines are coming together quite nicely.

I'm also being following both series for a some time.

If Walter White isn't dead they are thinking about the money, period.

Also agree with the Chuck + Jimmy thing.

Having never really been a fan of shows on AMC, most are too serious for me, I will be checking out Lodge 49. Any show that ends up on this forum is at least worth a gander.

Well Walter getting busted was always as plausible as him getting killed.
I think they left it open ended.
The show ends with a cop pointing a gun at Walter.
If he was dead why hold a gun on him?

Saul is off to a great season.

Lodge 49 is starting to drag IMO.
I gave it a chance. It's barely so so now.
It's a bit of a bore.
