I've recently added Zazen meditation to my dudely routine. I believe this may help me in my quest to a higher form of dudelightenment. My question here for my fellow dudeists is: is it beneficial to have a Caucasian or two prior to meditation or will that muddy the still waters? Should I wait until after my meditation is through? This isn't as straightforward as I want it to be. You know, lots of ins and outs and what have yous. Peace, love, honor and respect to all.
I think generally it's best not to be under the influence of any substances when you are going to meditate. The point is to quiet the mind via practice and dedication to the meditation-practice and so if you use drugs for that then it's kind of like cheating. So I remember reading somewhere that it's not recommended to intake any substance that will affect your brain chemistry (like caffeine, alcohol, drugs, jays, etc.) up to an hour before meditating.

Just my opinion, but I would think that you might want your white russian after your zazen, as you may be more *present* after meditation, and therefore better equipped for fully enjoying your beverage.
They (the fascists) usually recommend not drinking altogether.... like, in general. Some more laid back Buddhists say you can drink, but preferably after zazen, not before or during. I think only you can really answer that question, you know yourself better than anyone else does.
Keeping in mind too that zazen isn't meant to just be on the zafu, ya know, but a, uh, synonym for day-to-day life. It's just keeping the mind limber 24/7 whether sitting, standing, walking, lying down and what have you. I'm trying to cut back, myself - it's fuckin' exhausting. ;D

I've never really gone in for the meditation thing but I'll grant a lot of nice people do it.
