New to dudeism and this forum. What are the theories on why the Dude is particularly fond of white russians (besides the obvious, they are delicious)?
Glad to be a part of this community and looking forward to keeping my mind limber and takin it easy.
Thanks!

I have no inside knowledge. But I've always thought the ingredients (Kahlua, half-and-half, and vodka) played off each other and the Dude's personality nicely. Kind of a yin-yang balance thing. It reminded me of a character in "Sonny's Blues," a short story by James Baldwin, who drank scotch and milk (though, in that case, there was a biblical reference, too). I saw that as symbolic in a kind of the child and the man, coming of age, duality kind of thing.
Thanks for the reply. Agree that the holy trinity of ingredients seems to fit his personality. And I also thought of the child-like nature of a cocktail made with milk. Certainly was easier to take er easy when we were kids...youth is certainly wasted on kids.
I also like the idea that even Walter could make one on the Shabbos since there's no blender involved.
It makes me think of the Platonic view of the soul
Plato thought that the soul was broken up into three parts; The appetite, the spirited, and the rational
The appetite represented all basic instinctual urges; the need for food, sex, fulfilling biological urges. (This could be Donny)
The Spirited was the passionate part of the soul, it represented ones spirituality, passion, love, artful and musical (This could be Walter!)
And then the rational, the part that balances the rest of the soul, logical, reasoned, collected, calm. (The Dude, man)
Yeah I don't get it.
What kind of a thing is that for a grown man to drink?
I believe ordering one in certain parts would earn a man an ass whooping.
Not saying I condone that but
Lost my train of thought

Bring it, son! I'll whoop that ass and drink my milky poison at the same time. Judo-Chop!
Idk. It's a classic stoner drink that's indulgent and easy to prepare. Coffee goes well with marijuana. I wasn't aware that it was considered childish or feminine for a cocktail, but I suppose that makes sense. I'm more of an Irish coffee sort of guy, myself.
I like the Bailey's Irish Cream flavor, but since I'm too cheap to buy fancy liqueur, I just use sugar and regular whiskey instead of Bailey's. I prefer rum to whiskey, so I use rum. And since I'm too lazy to bother with careful preparation, I stir the cream into the coffee instead of putting a layer of heavy cream on top. And since I use evaporated milk for my regular coffee, I just use evaporated milk instead of cream. Also, I use instant coffee, which is not at all proper for mixed drinks.
...I wouldn't buy Kahlua either, so it seems that my white Russian recipe would be identical to my Irish coffee recipe after the usual substitutions. So, I guess I could also say that I drink white Russians, but I prefer them hot.
...But I can't drink alcohol due to prescription meds, so I prepare cocktails "virgin" without liquor these days. Which means that my Irish coffee is just an instant coffee and evaporated milk latte with imitation rum flavoring, while my white Russians are just a more concentrated version of that plus ice.
