Title: Oat Soda Blessing
Post by: RevWade on July 15, 2009, 12:54:30 PM
Well, My brother is a brewer, and makes a lot of oat soda.  Yesterday, we bottled a brew for our cousins wedding.  We had the great idea for me to bless it.  it went as fallows:
while pointing and sortof waving at the beer "lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what have you's.  Catch ya further on down the trail."

I know it's quick, but you could totally make a longer version if you're not into that whole brevity thing.

take 'er easy, dudes.

And in the case you never blow something up, why don't you teach us how to do it?   8)

Man, this is the right commandment for humanity for dealing with stress, and many other things.

you can either do malt extract, or all grain.  the difference there is that malt extract is like barley syrup, while all grain is like you make a barley tea, then dilute it.  that takes about an hour or so.  then you need to boil that malt tea, and add your hops (a hop bag is a good idea).  let those abide in there for as long as you decide depending on what type of hops you want to add and when to add them.  after you do that boil which should be around an hour or so, you let it cool, then put it in the fermentor with the yeast and let it ferment for around a week.  you can rack it after that week and then let it ferment for another week.  this helps for clarity.  after that second week, its time to bottle.  boil a cup of  water, and dissolve 4 ounces of corn sugar in it.  add that mixture to your brew, and then put it into bottles, cap it, and let it carbonate for a week give or take.  once the carbonation is to your liking, enjoy your oat soda, and know that you have achieved

The Trappist Monks in Belgium and surrounding areas have 3 main types of ales:  Dubbel, Trippel, and Quadrupel.  I think I am going to use these as kind of a base line or what have you, but up the hops, as to make it reminiscent of the j's we do.  Did you guys know that hops are a cousin of hemp (marijuana)?  also, these brews will have a high abv (alcohol by volume) percentage, as to keep our minds limber.  I'm thinking that the Dudeist styles should be refered too as Split (kinda like the Dubbel), Spare (Kinda like the Trippel), and Strike (kinda like the Quadrupel).  Recipes to come!  That is if I don't forget haha

You mean that hops can be smoked too? Like Thai sticks?

well if you really want to smoke hops be my guest, but it wont get you high.  what I'm blathering about is that some types of hops can give a slightly cannabis like aroma.  also, hoppy beers pair really well with a j (or any other way to indulge for that matter).  I'd suggest trying a sierra nevada torpedo ipa with your j.

I'm actually a homebrewer as of just recently. In fact, as of this writing, I am a day away from bottling my first batch.

Believe me when I say that although brewing beer takes a bit of labor, it's a labor of love, and the brewing, when paired with some already existing refreshments and some tunes, makes for a very dude-like hobby 8)

Remember that first batch of beer I blessed?  that was at home.  After Christmas, I was in Boulder, Co. to visit my brother who is interning at Averry Brewing Company.  I was Allowed to bless an entire tank of the Averry India Pale Ale.  I'm thinking I might come up with a blessing for each type of oat soda.
