Title: The Day of the Dude.
Post by: Elbowski on July 13, 2009, 12:31:07 AM
Pardon me for wandering in here like a child but I humbly submit to you good dudes that we address the question of the principal holy day of the Dudeists. I do not wish to exclude the fine choice of 3/6, the day of the opening, perhaps that could be the "christmas" to the "easter" of 8/6 or what have you.

I am aware of the pitfalls of the straight and narrow, I would rather avoid stepping into the dogma, dude's gotta keep his mind limber, but a few holy days would lend a little credence to our endeavor, in the parlance of our times.

Three holy days would be cool, perhaps one for Walter, (3/6); one for the Dude, (8/6); and a third for Donny?

It looks like they even left us a slice of the zodiac. The sign of the Dude?

What about an unholy day for Ivan Turgenev, the father of modern nihilism?

I think having a specific "day" is too much focus, I'd forget anyway being too busy takin it easy.
Any day is a dude day

Too ambitious for ya? I guess we'll just have the party without you dudes. As far as I'm concerned, every Wednesday is now Dude'sday.

A religion without a holiday is like a Johnson without a vagina.

Very true, and so do I, but I think that we need a special day, for the credence, ya know, cuz that's something that the square community gives a shit about, and we gotta worry about the tax bracket and such. I mean, new shit has come to light, man. The diem isn't gonna carpe itself, ya know?

I'm not trying to get all dogmatic on you dudes, but a few high holy days are a good excuse for a party. Gotta keep the laity satisfied, ya know? They aren't as dudely as us dudes, if they were they would be dudes like us.

You can still use it anyway  8) And in some funny ways too  ;D

I came here looking to see if there was any Dudeist day(s) of observance around the winter solstice.

I like the suggestion that the principal high holy day be the 6th March : Opening Day.
A ritual for Opening Day could be to go to a movie and ask the hot dog vendor to, "Make me one with everything".

Having Dude'sday every Wednesday is also a splendid idea for a secondary holy day - that comes around at a much more attractive frequency.

I also tend to agree with the point that The Dude saw every day as a holiday. We could borrow from another code I heard and: Treat every day like Opening Day.
