Big fan of his early and middle work. Also love the pubescent humor he displayed in bets with colleagues like Leonard Susskind and John Preskill. If I recall correctly, both involved the preservation or loss of information in a black hole and he lost both. In the former, he gave Susskind a subscription to Penthouse and, in the latter, he gave Preskill a baseball encyclopedia. Or maybe he was to have received a Penthouse subscription if he won. Either way, it's good stuff.
That party he threw for time travelers was also pretty good. It's hard to hate a man that's brilliant and has a sense of humor.
