Title: Dudeist Data
Post by: thevideoartist on June 10, 2016, 09:47:46 AM
Hello dudes,

Upon reading some old and some new posts on the forums about the potential for brick and mortar "temples" or "churches" or what have you... I was curious if anyone has ever tried compiling some data on where the fuck we all are?  That would probably inform the process a lot better for those inclined to seek out other dudes and I think it'd just be fucking interesting man.

It does sound exhausting... but I'd think the prospect of connecting with more compeers in person might make it worthwhile for some of us.

Anyone tried something like this yet?

I don't think a church per se would work either... but there are some nice folks here... some whom I wouldn't mind meeting up with if they roll on shabbos.  Plus like I say, knowing who we are and where we're coming from would be pretty derned interestin'

Most of my current friends are super career driven and I just get bummed hanging out with them since I'm trying to leave those empty ambitions behind ya know.  Gotta have some kind of tribe though,...

I don't think that a formal Dudeist church would work. Nobody would show up to the meetings...

Even if we did, what would we accomplish?  "Hey Dudes.  Abide.  Uhh, well, that about does her, wraps her all up.  Bar's over there, smoke it if you got it."  ;D

I think it could be good just to have a physical place where people could go if they chose too. Not mandatory but just a place for fellow Dudes to get together and bullshit about life and whathaveya. Plus a physical locations adds a certain amount of legitimacy to the whole thing. If definitely not a requirement but it would be cool if someone could get one up and running.

Why not just meet at a bowling alley? It seems an ideal dudeist temple to me and if you have nothing to say, roll a few frames, have a drink or whatever.

Also, people tend to see bartenders like confidante's, kinda like a dudeist confessional.

Not a horrible idea, but any bowling alley we might meet at would be a privately owned establishment whose rules and code of conduct we'd have to adhere to, so we wouldn't exactly have complete freedom to do whatever we wanted unless we came to some sort of agreement with the owners/managers in advance.  Even then, I'm pretty sure the smoking of anything would be out of the question.

That brings a question to mind.  I wonder if we could get weed legalized across the board for Dudeists on religious grounds in the same way the Native American Church in the U.S. uses peyote as "the sacred medicine"?  I mean, the precedent has already been set with the American Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978, so...  8)

I don't think the reactionaries in congress would go for that :P Plus that was back in the 70's, things are much different now hahaha
