Speaking of "beyond our grasp to recreate", at my last place of employment we processed aerospace parts, including the motor casings for the solid rocket boosters that launched each and every Space Shuttle into orbit. One day I was talking to a representative from NASA who told me one of the reasons we haven't been back to the moon is because the current generation of engineers have looked at all of the specs for the Lunar Module, and they can't figure out how to make it work. :o

That's probably what this generation needs; a book titled "The ABC's of Building a Lunar Module" with a whole lot of pictures and step-by-step instructions. My guess is that they're either not particularly familiar with 1960s-1970s technology, or they can't figure out how to replicate it with modern technology. Then again, you'd think at some point they'd just say, "Okay, this isn't working so we need to design a new vehicle that can land on the moon and take off again. Go!"
It's actually pretty incredible the amount of old school tech that we cannot recreate with modern methods. Maybe people have become less creative when it comes to problem solving.
It probably needs mentioning that a computer-operated vehicle manufactured by a company named after this admittedly veritable dude was recently involved in a well publicized accident resulting in death. Here's Tesla's spin on the incident.

Same here. "Autopilot" in cars might be the wave of the future, but I'm still going to drive manually. Hell, I hardly ever use my cruise control.
I'm just waiting for when we finally cross the threshold to full automation. I'm sure it won't be long before you're expected to use autopilot. It's actually kind of scary how connected and reliant on tech we are becoming, I just bought a house and the amount of automated crap you can put in there is crazy! Maybe it's just me but an entire house, including door locks, that can be ran by a smart phone just seems vulnerable to me. Then again, I may just be paranoid of the robot uprising.
Self driving cars, the ability to basically control your entire house and even certain aspects of your car doesn't sound entirely foul proof. It's sounds great and looks good on paper but I would much rather not rely on a computer and just do it myself
