Title: Loss of another great
Post by: Father Bubba on June 11, 2015, 01:38:45 PM
Well dudes, Sir Christopher Lee passed away today at the age of 93. He was one of my favorite actors, too. Of course the movies he is well known for are 'Dracula', 'Lord of the Rings', and 'Star Wars'. I gotta say, I liked him as Sauramon and Count Dooku the most, but he is pretty infamous for his role as Dracula. And he had a heavy metal band, too! I think he will be remembered by everyone in the geek culture, as well as plenty others outside of it. Goodnight, sweet prince.

I know nothing of Mr. Lee's personal life but readily appreciated the quality and consistency of his work (yes, including the 70s Dracula schtick). I like that. An actor who plays roles, plays them well, and leaves it at that - or is, at least, content to leave it there. Also, his family apparently delayed the death notice almost a week. Good on the media for not blowing that or, in the alternative, not noticing it.

Call it a coincidence - and, well, you'd be right -  but Dusty Rhodes (a/k/a "The American Dream" and "The Son of a Plumber") also died today. You're probably thinking, "Dude, wtf, don't hijack threads and, moreover, who the fuck died when?" Well, I'll admit fault on the first point but you should reconsider the second one. Dude's passing merited both SI and the NYP.

Yeah, the polka-dots were sad. There's a backstory to that. So, scoff if you will but professional wrastlin, at its best, is the closest modern approximation of classical Greek drama.

I did not know that.

Not that it matters, but he actually passed on Sunday, June 7th.  His wife delayed the formal announcement until family members could be informed.

Even in his early days as an actor, Sir Lee was a class act who rarely (if ever) gave a bad performance, even if the movie he was in wasn't particularly good.
