I've been a fan of Wes Anderson since "The Royal Tennenbaums" and I've recently watched "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and started watching "Moonrise Kingdom". I like the look and feel of his movies and the dry humor. Anyone else a fan?
Of those you mentioned I've only seen Grand Budapest, but I laughed my ass off. It was a great movie. Everything about it was par excellence. The writing, the color palette, the vistas, the dialogue, the acting, set design, the impeccable timing... It makes fun of its own pretentiousness. Like watching someone undergoing a transformative, almost spiritual experience, but through the eyes of a madman.
I've only seen it once, so in fact, I think I'll watch it again right now!
I can't say I've seen all of his movies, but I've enjoyed the ones I've seen so far except for Fantastic Mr. Fox, which I didn't really care for. For whatever reason, I find I appreciate them more on the second viewing; the exception to this was The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which I dug immediately and remains my favorite Anderson movie. Anderson has definitely created a unique style for his movies with his use of color, the quirky characters, the over-the-top situations, and so on, so I tend to think of them as taking place in an alternate reality. So, yeah, I suppose I'd say I'm a fan.
I really like "The Life Aquatic" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel", but just don't like "The Royal Tennenbaums".
I find him a bit hit or miss, no middle ground.
But then that's just my opinion Dude.
The Life Aquatic and The Darjeeling Limited are my favorites. If you haven't seen Darjeeling, watch it sometime. The feel is very laid back and bittersweet, but very Dude in a subtle and profound sort of way.
Steve Zissou is totally a Dude. Long live BM, (and I'm not talkin' about Bob Marley).
