Title: What is your Dudevinity
Post by: TheMacDude on April 01, 2015, 09:17:24 PM
Taoist believe in "the Way", while the way of the Dude is... I don't know? Is it Dudeness?

So please, all wise Dudes in this forum, can you impart to your initiates practices to help us establish our Dudevinity?

The Dude climbed up a molehill and came down a mountain.  Upon his descent, he held aloft two half and half containers, (or would that be one whole container?).  Upon them, instructions of the Dude Way was written.  Upon the first it said: "Take 'Er Easy".  Upon the second it said: "Abide".

And lo, although the check was postdated, it was good.

Thats' a fine pair of testaments right there. I wonder if occasionally "stickin' it to the man" is also down there somewhere? Lemme take another look.

None of us know.
But that's cool man.

Don't worry about knowing the way.
That is the Dudeist way IMO.

Ah, many thanks, Dudes.

But Dudes, when will Dudeness appear to me, and when will I see Dudevinity?

Dudeness will appear when you stop seeking it.  Be true to yourself, and just be the best you that you can be.

Ah, very good, dude!

Tell me Dudes, what is it to speak irreverently of Dudeness; of Dudeuversality?

It's fuckin' amateur.  It's reactionary.  Or at the very least, it's un-dude.

To be amateur and reactionary is undude? What is the state of undudeness on its own?

Bein a dick, rod or johnson. An uptight cleft asshole or a member of the square community, IMO.

You wont. Dude is a way of being you realise you are, and there is no "Dudevinity".

I like Al's point of view:

I read something from a Thelemite teacher along the lines of, "Imagine yourself as the high priest of the religion of being you." I see that as being close to the essence of Dudeism. The Dude simply is who he is. He is true to himself. He wouldn't be interested in telling you how to be you. He would only teach by example.
To be a Dude is to live in accordance with your true self without interfering with others. Do not be a fucking fascist and try to impose your will upon others. Nor should you be afraid to draw the line in the sand if someone is pissing on your rug.
Work out a way of living that maximizes your own well being and the well being of others around you.
That's Rev. Jimmy's opinion.

"What makes a Dude?  Is it being prepared to do the right thing, whatever the cost? Isn't that what makes a Dude?"
"Hmmm...sure, that and a pair of testaments."

;D

I initially dug Dudeism for the Humor of it. The Irony.
But what I have found is that being a Dudeist does translate into real world benefits.
I work in an environment where the "TODO" list is never ending.
Work hard and more shit will pile up. Work harder and people will just see your pile as needing more shit.
Once I said "Fuck it!  I can't be worrying about that shit.  Life goes on!" things got a lot easier.
I move at my own pace and with an attitude that "it'll be done when it's done" people generally stay out of my shit more, not less. People are actually more satisfied where as before everybody always wanted more and more.
It's like once you have the stink of the Dude on you they know not to bug you. And it's not JUST the Dude. there have been others throughout the years. Each generation has it's Dude. In that way the Dude has always been with us.

Practically speaking, as I see it we generally act by putting the cart before the horse in how we deal with stress.
We try to do stuff to get past the stress. We think that "if I can just bla bla bla then I'll be fine".
"Wouldn't it be great if bla bla". Once you go down that road it never ends. It's always 2 steps ahead.
Fuck it! That's our answer for everything! Tattoo it on your forehead!

I am in the process of starting the first Scottish Cantheist sect of the Church of the latter day Dude. During service white Russians and White Widow will be taken together in in sacrament.

Sounds nummy my Scottish brother.  Keep abiding!

I think the important thing is to be your own "dude".  We all can't be Jeff Lebowski but we can all be the Dude by embracing the concept of the "rug that ties the room together".  Be your own Dude and find your own special rug or beverage that enhances the Dude that is within.    My own personal example is that I don't drink a White Russian, my special beverage of choice?  Peach Tea.  It really ties the beverages together.  :).

I have to agree with all or most of what's said about being a Dude... But I think it's equally important that "being" is about how we abide others in their "being"... as far as it does not attempt to affect our Dudeism. Being able to dig and find value (even if it's just seeing it from their perspective as it fits for them) in their style without disrespecting it.

Abiding and moving along your trajectory... sharing what works for you without intent or requirement for others to follow it. Listening to what works for others and taking what will work for you and giving credit where credit is due.

Dudeism in my mind is abiding in true ease. Being able to do a summer day of nothing, like a child, and making that ease a daily thing. It's a challenge worth accepting

Try not to force stuff into words, man. Just enjoy life and ride the wind with a caucasian in hand.
