Title: Animal Dudes
Post by: NewDude29 on March 04, 2015, 03:44:26 AM
Dudes, I've got some seriously un-dude news for you all, and I don't know what the fuck to do about it.

On the 9th of February 2015, my dog, Monkey, was bitten by a Tiger Snake, a lethally venomous snake found where I live, in Melbourne, Australia.

I am on the Autistic Spectrum, and last March, my parents split up. I am 21 as of this writing, and I am having a really hard time here, dudes.

See, Monkey and her sister, Grace, were an 18th Birthday present from my Uncle. This breed of dog is usually bred for hunting, but because the girls were so timid, they had both been seriously badly treated as pups and we rescued them from being shot by their previous owner. We got Grace at 3 months and Monkey at 6 months, and if it weren't for those dogs and my Mum, I'd be dead right now.

I was there when Monkey died; I felt her heart stop. Grace was also bitten, and she's been in and out of animal hospitals since then.

If there is anyone out there who can lend a fellow Dudeist a hand in this matter, I would mark it 10 in my scorebook.

That's just fucked, man. No way around it. No platitudes. No false consolation. All I can say is that many of us have been where you are. It hurts. For a long time. And then it keeps hurting. Waves after wave of it. Until you can't breathe. Until you can't think and you can't stop thinking. And that's how you know you loved them. Because you couldn't hurt that much for anything other than love. Then you realize that, for all the pain, it was still worth it.

Kudos on being there for the little guy at the end. That's hard - but we owe them that much. Anyway, here are a couple other dudes that have gone through it.

And a piece of doggerel from Lord Byron...that still makes me cry like a baby.

Boatswait

When some proud son of man returns to earth,
Unknown to glory, but upheld by birth,
The sculptor's art exhausts the pomp of woe,
And storied urns record who rests below;
When all is done, upon the tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been.
But the poor dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, the foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his master's own,
Who labors, lives, fights, breathes for him alone,
Unhonored falls, unnoticed all his worth,
Denied in heaven the soul he held on earth.
While man, vain insect, hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole, exclusive heaven.
Ye! Who behold, perchance, this simple urn,
Pass on; it honours none you wish to mourn.
To mark a friend's remains these stones rise,
I have never known but one - and here he lies.

Hang in there Dude.
Not sure what to offer other than an observation that things average out in the end.
If you are the recipient of random bummers then the odds are that things will get better.

To this very dude of a dude who posted this I am very sorry for the loss of your dog I completely understand how you feel I do not know how worse it would be for autism by my parents are divorced now and they did I was like fuck it , it can only go uphill especially now with dudeism my life has been better with the dogs when I lost mine years back my family cried all but me ... My dog was there befor I was born and always watched out for me when he left I thought to myself this is better for him he was old and couldn't see probably in pain just trying to take a piss and my dog was 19 unlike you my dog didn't have a sister but show her as much love as possible so she didn't get lonely without her sister and remember every dude on this website is a friend so we will all try to help you

Also sorry if my story didn't help but besides autism I went through the same thing and it got better I hope some of us dudes can help man

Howdy, fellow dudes out there.

Walp, it's been nearly 9 months now since Monks died, and I just wanted to say to all of you, Thanks.

If it weren't for you dudes out there who posted and sent well wishes, even if only on the cosmic level, I wouldn't be sitting here typing this right now.

You all held me above water when I was being dragged down by black-hole-weighing bowling balls on my feet, and I owe you all a Caucasian or an Oat Soda next time you are in Melbourne! (Just FYI, if you dudes don't know what that means, a Black Hole is so dense and small and heavy that not even light can escape it's pull).

Now for the good news: Grace is better! She still can't have much protein, fat or salt, and she's on a special Kidney diet, but she is almost back to normal. That still doesn't make Mondays any easier, but it's keeping on going when the shit hits the fan that defines what a Dude is made of, you know?

Also, jgiffin and ProudDogWeather; you guys are truly great Dudes. Your comments helped more than I can express in words.

Abidingly,
Pete Arronax

Glad to hear you and Grace were able to help each other through this, man. One of my dogs has been on a special diet since a near-fatal attack of pancreatitis about five years ago. He's the same little dude, though, and your girl can be, too. Thanks for letting us know how things have gone.
