You ever see that hard rock thing that Garth Brooks (the c/w guy) did? He had some psuedonym but some of the songs weren't as bad as you'd expect... (That's what I always think about when I think of Pat Boone doing this).
Of course, Johnny Cash did some covers not too long before his passing that were actually pretty incredible.

I actually own the whole album (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shatner%27s_musical_career), and this advert in which William Shatner Sings 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (http://mashable.com/2014/09/23/shatner-bohemian-rhapsody-ad/) nearly brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it.
