As a fully formed Dude adept in the ways of abiding, I find I LOVE reading Ligotti's short ( philosophical horror)fiction.
I think it's ok to do since i giggle through so much of it and recognize the human condition for what it is, choosing to be Dude amidst a lot of reactionaries and ego-driven fascists, and his short stories keep me feeling right there on the fence I build for myself between total Abidance ( which could be dull) and downright good natured misanthropy.
Anyone else?
not me, but you definitely got me interested. philosophical horror sounds like a treat
hey then i recommend teatro grottesco, a collection of short stories, i fot it on kindle for under $8. here is a link...http://www.amazon.com/Teatro-Grottesco-Thomas-Ligotti-ebook/dp/B001FA0R2U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410533599&sr=8-1&keywords=ligotti+teatro (http://www.amazon.com/Teatro-Grottesco-Thomas-Ligotti-ebook/dp/B001FA0R2U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410533599&sr=8-1&keywords=ligotti+teatro)
HILARIOUS, lovecraftian and yes, somewhat nihilistic but what a writer!
I had never heard of this author but checked out the selection you recommended on Amazon. Based on his reviews I decided to download to my Kindle a sample of Teatro Grottesco and it opened with this:
"PURITY
We were living in a rented house, neither the first not the last of a long succession of such places that the family inhabited throughout my childhood years. It was shortly after we had moved into this particular house that my father preached to us his philosophy of 'rented living.' He explained that it was not possible to live in any other way and that attempting to do so was the worst form of delusion."
That, right there, set the hook. I've been thinking this, as a homeowner (which entity owns which?), for some time. So after I read just that little piece I bought the whole book.
Good catch! He's got another one that is non-fiction called "The Conspiracy Against the Human Race: A Contrivance of Horror" which, if Teatro is anything like the sample, will be my next Kindle download.
The Conspirary against the human race is his intense book of essays. I had heard that most of the character of TRUE DETECTIVE, Rust Cohl's lines had been possibly plagiarized by the shows writer line for line from some stuff in Conspiracy, so thats how i heard of ligotti.
If you end up wanting more ligotti fiction, ask me, im about to finish the teatro grotessco( giggling most the way through) and have been told nightmare factory should be my next choice.
so far my two favorite strories in Teatro are THE CLOWN PUPPET and the following one THE RED TOWER.
have fun. unless they start messing mith your dude-vibe, i personally am getting a little dude-is interuptus since reading him, but that's cool, that's cool......
See now you made me go and look this Dude up and download one of his books, I'll have to read it now as well.
meekon, hope you downloaded teatro grottesco!
Damn you woman I now have to look for another one!
;D
'the clown puppet', dude. made ME laugh to beat the band.
