They didn't end up in the movie due to the paraquat they had for a record company, which of course would become evident in later years. But they had a great set at Woodstock even though they got bumped back to like 3:30AM after as John Fogerty said "the Grateful Dead put a half million people to sleep".

Mainly I think he was bummed about the circumstances of the show.
He was very pissed that the Dead took a long time since they had several equipment malfunctions.
Creedence who were supposed to headline that day got pushed back so late that he they played before a sea of sleeping people.
He was understandably pissed.
But listening to the show now it sounds like a pretty decent Creedence show to my ears.
The Dead by the way are very honest about how bad they (the Dead) sucked at Woodstock.

You see a lotta comments on how his decision was nothing but a self-centered egoistic move but like you say, I think his emotions and decisions were justified.
The Dead, well, maybe they sounded just about right to the acid-driven crowd back then. Nice to hear they were being honest. I did not know that.
