Far out! Too many meat themed recipes for my tastes, but the commentary (from the Amazon preview) looks fuckin interesting, man.

I was about to recommend we all exchange recipes and come up with a communal dude's kitchen of our own...but, hell, at 99 cents that's just silly cheap!

I looked on Amazon and it was $13.  Maybe I'm on the wrong Amazon?

They're trying to scam us, man! I just clicked on the clicky thing and Amazon tried to charge me $5.99. That's still rather modestly priced but it ain't 99 cents! Screw that. We can do better ourselves. I'll contribute my humus "recipe" and see if we get any other takers.

Good Night, Sweet Prince, Humus

Zest of 1 lemon
Juice of 1 lemon
1-2 tbsp tahini (ground sesame paste)*
1 15oz can chick peas (garbanzo beans) (drain the juice but don't wash them)
4 cloves roasted garlic**
1 shit-ton fresh basil (maybe 15 leaves) (cilantro is "meh" if no basil)
3-4 dashes ground cumin
A Wee Bit of ground/fresh hot peppers (Ancho, Cayenne, Smoked Paprika etc.)
Kosher salt to taste - I go with about two pinches
Cracked black pepper to taste - I like a lot, maybe 1 tbsp

Put all of the above into a food processor (a blender is okay but probably won't get things as smooth) and blitz the shit out of it. Add extra-virgin olive oil to taste and consistency. If you're on a diet go half olive oil and half water...then go do sit-ups, fatty!

*Throw these three ingredients into the processor/blender and blitz them first. Add the others later. Something about tahini makes it want to be first in the pool. I dunno.

**Roasting the garlic is key. Raw would be way too much. Throw the cloves onto a sheet of aluminum foil - don't peel them. Coat with olive oil, salt, and cracked pepper. Wrap and place in oven at about 275-300 degrees for a while - prolly like 20 minutes. You want them soft but not browned. Now peel, mush them up, and enjoy. They're like good with, oh, everything.

Weird it was .99 when it was first posted (I went to amazon and read the preview thing). Must have been a very short "sale".

We've got a hummus recipe that we use that's similar, will give yours a try next time we make it, (I'm also a big fan black pepper). Thanks for sharing it!

I'll have to go through the cards and papers of our recipe collection and see if we have anything original worth sharing.
