Title: Having trouble finding ways to Abide...
Post by: SaneAmongInsane on May 06, 2014, 10:15:34 PM
This could be a case of a lack of a hobby/social life. I've been reading up a storm on Dudeism and it's parent religion Taoism, and as I apply a lot of the rules to myself (action through non-action, just taking it easy, live according to myself) I'm finding I'm a lot happier over all.

But I work everyday, and I come home just physically exhausted and mentally tired. I also don't have much in the way of a hobby for being 25 years old, I play video games thats it and as of late I'm not finding it as enjoyable as it use to be.

I've just recently discovered listening to Ocean Sounds, Hump Back Whales videos on Youtube instantly chill me out. It's also spring time now, so just driving with my windows down and the radio blasting looking at all the plant life on a sunny day is good, in fact it's one of the few moments of the day when I feel most "Part Of The Tao" I suppose.

I'm kinda trying to avoid chemical use to mellow out. I'm not against it by any means, but my liver and lungs are telling me they need a vacation from it all.

Just my two cents - and I could be projecting - but it sounds like you're in the midst of a transitional period, dude. Just embrace the changing you and dig what you dig. The time between your early twenties and your early thirties (uh, mid-to-late twenties I guess) is fucked up. I'm not against chemical use, either, but my guess is you'd see the same diminished enjoyment from it, too.

What are you interested in doing? Trick question: it doesn't matter. Just do whatever it is. If you enjoy it, keep doing it. If you don't, stop that shit and try something else. Repeat until you find happiness.

Which would be ironic, considering I didn't try "chemical vacations" until I was like 22. I'm 25 at present, so it very well could be as you say. This period of my life is not going as planned, I figured the close friends I had from high school would still be around but I suppose their busy with their own journeys at this point. That said, I'd probably be pretty bored doing what we use to do (sitting around playing games).

Mmm. Thoughts. I shall think of things to do that I would enjoy.
