Title: Other Dudes Worth Mentioning
Post by: SamuraiKatz on April 08, 2014, 01:03:11 PM
I would like to list a few other people worthy of being Great Dudes of History:

Epicurus (Take it Easy Philosophy): This ancient Greek philosopher believed that people shouldn't bother themselves with "mental agitation" and taught ancient Greeks about "taking it easy." He was one of the first to preach this in Western culture.

Bill and Ted (from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure): They live a go easy life and are always true to themselves always trying to be rockstars. They taught the philosophy of being dudely to others by preaching, "be excellent to each other" and helped to form the earlier ideas of dudeism and the term "dude" before the Dude himself brought it forward in the Big Lebowski.

The Honey Badger (Nature's very own dude): Living a life of "not giving a shit," the honey badger helps to show its fellow brothers and sisters in the animal kingdom and humankind how to live a good, dudely life. Instead of worrying about the problems in its life (such as snake bites and bee stings), it just doesn't care and eats and sleeps and keeps not giving a shit. If the Dude himself were to own a pet, it would be a honey badger.

St. Francis of Assisi: Originally living the life of a wealthy man, he changed when he came back from a war and decided to convert to dudeism. He traded his wealth for dudeliness and preached about peace, and being dudely to others.

Feel free to post others if my fellow dudes have any other Dudes worth mentioning

SamuraiKatz, is that Samurai Pizza Cats?

One of my favourite obscure kids cartoons.

Welcome rugs and oat sodas, make yourself at home.

I'm a recovering Catholic, but one of my family's patron saints is Francis of Assisi. So much so that it's not strange for us to still own statues of him.

From what I remember and what I was taught, he believed it is our duty as thinking people to care for those who cannot care for themselves. He said we must take care of others when we can because we can. That's partly why he put forward the idea of caring and praying for those who can't. Treat the animals, children, and poor badly and you cannot be called a good person.

I'm not sure how much of that was just the Catholic adding to his legend but it's still a good idea.

That's cool.
Coincidentally I was actually talking to a guy who works at the deli counter.
Strange how on occasion I find myself in philosophical discussions with everyday people.
He said exactly the same thing!
I for one support canonization for Ed the deli counter guy.
Now if we could just convince wall street and politicians and the rich of all that it would actually matter in some relevant manner.
It's like Lennon said you look for who benefits and ah...
Or Nietzsche I suppose. All belief and action is a will to power.
