Greetings dudes, haven't posted much for a while but I've been reading with interest as always.
I was re-watching TBL the other day and a thought occurred - there is one little moment in the film that never quite made sense to me. It's a pretty minor little bit, but in a film where so much of the minutiae has been analysed and analysed and so many meanings found, it seems odd that there's this one thing I can't get a handle on.
Basically, in a very long-winded way, what I'm trying to ask is... Why does Jackie Treehorn pretend to write down a phone number and then draw a picture (remarkably well given how quickly he appears to do it) of a man sporting what I can only describe as the kind of boner that would require a weapons permit of some kind and some form of stabiliser system as a bare minimum?
Is it just as simple as, he's not really on the phone, he's just waiting for the sedatives he slipped in the Dude's drink to kick in? I think that's what I tend to ascribe it to, but then why draw such a specific image?
I know some of you dudes dig the whole hidden context thing so would be interested in any thoughts. Or alternatively if I'm just like a child walking into a movie wanting to know why the cartoon man has a massive lob-on, feel free to tell me to shut the fuck up.
Well Dude, we just don't know.
He is a known pornographer though.
I think of 2 things when I see this scene: numero uno- what bike dude said: this fella's mind is always on the pootang; numero dos- this is a symbol or representation of what he is trying to do to the dude: fuck a stranger in the ass... :-\
And he treats objects like women.
Well, dude, here's my point of view.
The phone call came from his men who blew the Dude's appartment, telling him they found nothing. The drawing is just to give the Dude the impression that he write something important related to the call (but he is just a known pornographer, so its a man, but with a huge dick). The drugs would have kicked in anyway...
He had it all planed.
The fact that the Dude runs and do the detective is a easter egg to enhance the Boggart-parody from the movie.
That's my opinion...
Is he also trying to suggest he has a bigger Johnson than the Dude's?
