19 different clubs in a 21-yr-long career. Incredible talented on field and nonsensical in everything it did but playing football. Also dude, he never wrote anything, like, books. So one does not really know what the hell was going on. But dude, football has pop culture as surfing has.
Dude, he shall deserve our consideration.

oh and a bit off topic - football, not soccer. I'm always the first one to say 'to each his own', but this is one exception. You can't just take the name of a sport, apply it to the rules of another sport and then RENAME the original sport the name of which you took. I mean, this is way over the line

I just felt the same towards The Big Lebowski for years because of this.
Some jackass decided to translate "dude" into "duke" in French versions of LBL, which makes it both ridiculous, as far as you know the original language line, and unnecessarily aristocratic and therefore unsympathetic :)

Well, I think people around him made him a hell raiser.
He was like a pretty boy, a pretty talented football player, a pretty wealthy guy and he has seen the undies of various different miss-Universe-like "beauty queens".
Maybe somehow he started to drink as hell because something was wrong in the football 60's-70's world. Because obviously, and you're right to mention, hell is wrong but Thou Shalt not etc. ;D.
And amazing stories about him went public, linked or not to his notorious alcoholism.
Conclusion, if he had survived alcohol longer, he probably would have signed in this forum and shared his point of view about this big mess by bringing us all to the next bar
