Hey M dude, what are you Pagan dudes doing for Halloween? Any dude-like celebrations or events planned? :)

I'm buying a steak and a bottle of wine and relaxing at home this evening.
I'm sure the gods wont mind if I don't do anything serious until the weekend.
Halloween (or Samhain) is the festival of the dead (the world of the dead is nearest to the world of the living, when the people who died during the year rise up and pass through to the land of the dead).
I will probably have a little ceremony by myself.

Actually the steak and the wine represent the flesh and the blood of the sacrifice.
I did a little ceremony to seal my house (blessing the four directions) last night lit a fire (a candle actually), sacrificed the stake (shallow fried it with a little of the red wine), then shared the wine with the four directions (E, S, W, N), then ate the steak.
This morning I thanked each of the spirits of the four directions bid them go their own way, then opened the back door and the front door, then brushed the old year out the front door.
Locked up.
Then went to work.

Damn good stuff, M dude! It would be cool to see such ceremony and practice incorporated into the future writings of the philosophy Dudeism. I think it would enhance and expand dudeist thinking considerably.
Sorry to interrupt, but if I may, I disagree with you, DB.
According to the dudeist philosophy, as far as I understand it, every one is free to celebrate a ceremony he can call dudeist, without any bonds or obligations, as long as it is a way to enjoy the moment and his life in general.
of course, dudeism has its items, like bowling, robes and caucasians, due to the Dude and the Big Lebowski, but to me, the more important is its philosophy.
You see what I mean?

8) This is my concern, dude...
The problem I have with your opinion is that I don't disagree. When I said "It would be cool to see such ceremony and practice incorporated into the future writings of the philosophy Dudeism" I wasn't suggesting that religious dogma and "rules of conduct" of culture be enhanced or established, merely that, as I have written before, Dudeism can and should, IMHO, seek to embrace all forms of culture as far as possible. Much of Dudeist thinking comes from Eastern Philosophy, which is cool, but I also think dudes like Meekon5 can add his unique perspective on Dudeism from his Pagan knowledge and experience.
That is not to say that I think all philosophy should be a part of Dudeist thinking; I wouldn't want to see nazi ideology, as an example, incorporated into Dudeism. First, I don't think it could be done given what Dudeism already more or less stands for, and second, if it were possible, it would be a disaster, not to mention VERY UNdude.
Regarding your comment of "every one is free to celebrate a ceremony he can call dudeist, without any bonds or obligations every one is free to celebrate a ceremony he can call dudeist, without any bonds or obligations," I totally agree; my comments were suggestions for expanding Dudeism, not forcing or pressuring anyone into a way Dudeism must be practiced. The tenants of Dudeism, as far as I can tell, are just a basic guide and outline. Many a great dude do not don a robe to be sure.
This is why I said in my post titled "Wear your robes, dudes" that "I see it as freedom to wear your robe, rather than a requirement to do so. I agree; a dude is a dude, robe or not" and "Actually, my point in advising robe wearing was a way of saying "wear your dudeness openly" or "feel free to live your inner dude." The robe is a mere symbol, but a good one IMHO."
That's just like my opinion, man.
Damn, it's nice to have open minded people to talk with. I wish I could buy you all an oat.
Meekon, it would be so nice to talk and learn from you. I've always been attracted to pagans, and more specificly cults that focus on Nature, anterior to christainism.

We locked the gate and put on an old movie while I had an oat drink and my wife had a grape one.

Halloween is always a bit difficult to do something serious with due to bloody trick-or-treaters.
I believe that in Ireland you put a pumpkin in your window or by your door to signify you don't mind being bothered.
My problem is I have human skulls in my front window all year round so at Halloween even the Jehovah's get confused and knock on my door (only time of year they bother me). So I don't stand a chance with the sweet grabbing snots on that weekend.

;D(http://dudeism.com/smf/Themes/default/images/post/thumbdown.gif) Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, arrrgggggggggg, JW's at the door!!! A friend of mine believes the best way to open the door to a JW is matted down oily hair, smelly, unshaved and naked, and fart during the conversation!

I answered my door for JWs one summer just wearing underwear. Then they handed me a newsletter saying how atheists like me are evil.
Still remember that look on her face. But I was damn comfy and had no reason to put anything else on.

Oh I have to try this when they'll come back (if they ever do).
My anecdote with the JW : I listen to heavy metal, and I once opoened my door to a pair a believers with an Iron Maiden long sleeve Tshirt, with a lovely Eddie on the front giving the finger.
Did not talk, did not handle their newsletter, just walked away.
Meekon5, I totally understand your reaction to halloween and what it represent nowadays. Pisses me off too. It seems that they assume this part of the year will get me on a better mood.
In France, they do it to "copy". Pisses me off. They just do it as a fashion, they don't even know where it comes from, why it was created, and what it was supposed to replace (just like christmas).
