Japan raising Fukushima leak alert

Japan's nuclear agency has upgraded the severity level of a radioactive water leak at the Fukushima plant from one to three on an international scale.

Highly radioactive water was found to be leaking from a storage tank into the ground at the plant on Monday. It was first classified as a level one incident on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (Ines).

But Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority proposes elevating it to level three on the seven-point scale. Japanese reports say it is a provisional move that had to be confirmed with the IAEA, the UN's nuclear agency.

One of the things that our domestic media has consistently glossed over is the Fort Calhoun power plant in Nebraska. The Missouri River flooded and the plant was surrounded by 2 feet of water. Supposedly the plant would stay dry until the water level rose another 6 feet but this did not seem to soothe anyone at the FAA when they ordered the airspace above the plant closed to all air traffic.
As far as the Fukushima thing goes the authorities here saw fit to raise what they call the "safe levels" of radiation that the human body can be exposed to when it became apparent that some of the radioactivity from the Fukushima disaster was actually making it to the west coast.
I sleep better knowing that our government is looking out for us.

Gotta love Japan.
After the Chernobyl incident it took quite a while for the government to even acknowledge the incident, let alone its severity.

Here we have a simple leak and they are treating it very seriously. A very dudely nation.

The Japanese are infamous for not being honest about their problems because their culture discourages people from speaking up. Five years before it melted down they had a huge corruption scandal at the plant over safety violations. Fukushima was a cheap nuclear reactor design they built on one of the most volcanic, earthquake, and tsunami prone islands in the world and gave minimal protection from tsunamis. The idiots built the stupid thing right on the ocean and threw up a quick earth berm around it just high enough to defeat the last major tsunami they had there. When the water went over it, they lost their backup generators that were required by the cheap design to prevent a meltdown.

Michio Kaku went on TV when the meltdown first occurred and declared in no uncertain terms the idiots needed to entomb the thing right away. They're only excuse for not doing so already is they are attempting to clean up the mess, but the news keeps getting out that the stupid thing is leaking horribly. If they don't do something constructive soon I expect they will feel the heat from the international community because continuing to allow all that radioactive crap to flow into the ocean is not cutting it.

I remember when Fukushima first happened I was checking out some news videos on YouTube relating to the "meltdown". It had been stated categorically that there was no explosion. Yet in a video put on by RT (Russia Today) there was what appeared to be an explosion. What I saw was a mountain of smoke and fire throwing pieces of debris (large truck parts and the like) over 300 feet in the air. I say over 300 feet because the smokestacks were said to be 300 feet high and a piece of a kinda large truck flew above the top of the smokestack.
To me that kinda looked like an explosion. Of course I'm not EOD trained so what do I know?

Some how the words of Walter "nothing is fucked here, dude, nothing is fucked" just don't work. However, Walter's remaining comment "they're a bunch of fucking armatures" does seem to apply. Holy shit, Japan, get that shit cleaned up, you Pandehoes!
