I had read something about ID cards that used to be available but I guess aren't anymore so I made my own for my buddy and me :)

I've made a few for my brother & me. I don't think the Dudely Lama would mine. Maybe we should share designs.
If I had a php-enabled server, I'd even make a page for custom printable cards.
Reason like that is why I wish I had learned photoshop, looks great man

You can still learn Photoshop or Gimp or other raster graphics software. The main thing is, don't expect to learn it in a month. I've been using that and Illustrator for years and still find new things & techniques.
Thanks TDA
MD, I can send you the psd file if you want man :)
I've got it set up so that all it needs is the name/address stuff edited and to add in a cropped photo
(I used a dual layer photo for it, the rear image had a 2.5 gaussian blur and the front image was smart sharpened, then I merged them together with an opacity of about 66% for a more natural effect.)
Ah, good idea! I have an Illustrator vector of the dudefish somewhere on my external. Once upon a time, I had a project where a paper was in RTF format, and the user would enter data. The script would search/replace the info and would get a printable paper.
I'm sure imagemagick would do better now, but I was proud of my work. :)
I took a year of graphic design but don't remember most of it (a tiny bit of illustrator and some photoshop, nearly no recollection of quark express lol) because I may or may not have been highly inebriated through most of that year lol. :)
Are you talking about some sort of optical character recognition? I'm a little confused lol.
Anyways, if you wanna pm me your email I can send you the psd file. 8)
Nah, not OCR. An RTF (Rich Text Format) is similar to a PostScript file in that it's all text. I made a perl script that would look for a tag, like **SURNAME** and replace it with user's data, like Lebowski. When it returned a downloadable RTF file they could print it in Word or OpenOffice.
As for cards, you could print onto Teslin paper. Or print on sticker paper, apply to a styrene backer (say, an old store loyalty card), and seal it with spray enamel.
Or should I make a tutorial on this?
Ohhhh, ok I got what you mean now. Right on man, that's cool 8)
I just printed mine on regular paper then put double sided tape on the back and stuck it to an old discount card and then covered it with clear tape. When I get the money I might print one on thicker stock paper and have it laminated but I'm good for now :)

Wow, uh, dude, this is so awesome. I would dig having one of these. I'll be looking into this.
